I recently returned from a trip to Flagstaff, Arizona . I went to see my brother and also planned on returning thru Utah and see some of the places that I missed the last couple of times that I was out there.
My trip started in the rain and continued in the rain thru Iowa, Neb and eastern Colorado. Temps ranged from 64 deg to 50 deg. Upon arriving at Walsenburg, Colorado the weather inproved and was great the rest of the trip.
Leaving Flaggstaff I took hwy 89 and 160 to Kayenta, then 163 thru Monument Valley. I have been that way about 3 times before and am beginning to believe that the wind always blows in Kayenta.
Having been thru Monument Valley before, I am still impressed by the rock formations.
I then took hwy 316 to Gooseneck State Park.
The San Juan river has created these great canyons on its way to join the Colorado.
From there I took hwy 261 north to hwy 95. About midway you run into this road.
I had to lift the above picture off the internet as there are no overlooks on this road until you reach the top and then you cannot see the road because it tucks in to the canyon wall.
It is called the Moki Dugway and you climb 1100 ft in three miles of gravel on a very narrow road. If you want a thrill , try it sometime.
I then took hwy 191 past Moab and then hwy 313 to Dead Horse Point. Really some outstanding views from the end of the road.
Then I took a ride thru Arches Park, I had been there before and walked to all the Arches so this time I just rode thru and looked at the weird rock formations.
From there I headed for Colorado, one of my favorite states to ride. I ended up heading for Walden for the evening and then the next day took hwy 14 to Ft. Collins. A fantastic ride, this was my fourth time.
Arrived home the next day, all told a fun trip. But then which one isn't.
