Trunk attach kit (swap)

Could a 2003 touring trunk (top case) be attached in an 07 base? How about vise versa, an 07 case in a 2003 base? Please advise since I am trying to fit a gen 2 top case into a gen I bike. Any ideas will be considered and apreciated.

I believe they are identical and should mount up with no issues.

I have a premier rack designed for a GENII on mine. The 3 mount holes on the tail are in the same location across all years.
