Tulsa Ride -- Sat4/5/08

I wanted to start out by saying sorry no photos.

Alphawolf and myself wanted to just get away from it all. I am about to start another long run at the hospital and there will be ever little time for trips. (I love my job, I love my job, I love my job; ok I still don't believe it). What is sad, at one time I really did love doing the work I am doing. Ok, enough of my sad story and onto the ride.

We left out around 8:30am to have a fun day. We had just a fun day planned. The plans where flexible as you will read on. The plan was:

1st To make to rest stops on the way there (Weber Falls, Ok and McDonald's on the turnpike).

2nd Stop at Broken Arrow, OK to get fuel, Basspro Shop, and Green County motorcycle shop.

3rd Go to Osage Casino, on the north West End of Tulsa.

4th From there go to Poncho's Mexican restaurant.

5th Go to the bust shop (bras and extra)

6th Go to Creek Nation Casino.

7th Back home with the two same rest stops.

After we left at 8:30; the temp was a wonderful 43 degs, but sunny! The drive out on the open highway, I40 west was great. I was able to get the FJR up in speed. I asked my wife if she needed to stop, and she keep telling me to go on. Then at when our first stop was coming up, she started announcing she needed to pee! So, we stopped at Weber Falls Luves truck stop. There were a lot of Native American (Indian) gifts for sale there. My wife was lost in that for 20 minutes. Our middle daughter married a Choctaw boy, so I can say Indian! I finally was able to get her on the bike to go. The amazing part she did not buy a thing! (In all honesty, she is not a big shopper anyway) Back on the road, I was able to really see how the FJR was going to run on the turnpike. I preferred twisty roads, but on the super slab every once in awhile is fine too!

We did not make our second stop. Alphawolf said she was fine to go on. So, we keep going to Broken Arrow. ( I sorry for this, but I need to explain the reason for asking Alphawolf about stopping. She is a disable ICU nurse. She had several vertebra broken in the hospital while taking care of a patient. SO, when she needs to get off, we stop. )

At Broken Arrow, we pulled off at Elm street and went to the Green county motorcycle shop first. Looked around for awhile and listen to a salesman line of crap. He did not know anything about the Suzuki GS500f's, but was a real expert, Yea right. After that we drove to gas station to get some fuel. It is actual cheaper there than at home. Put 5 gallons into the bike. If you never been there, you can see the Bass pro shop across the highway.

Basspro was crowded with cars and only three bikes in the parking lot. Not including ours. Walking in with our jackets and riding pants on, the looks started. My wife went to the restroom, and according to alpahwolf we where the talk in there. Until they noticed my wife. There was still no big deal to me. Alphawolf came out and told me we where the talk of the town. So, we hung around for the ladies to come out. When they did I kissed alphawolf and grabbed her butt. The ladies where shocked at this PDA. We laughed and did our shopping. Basspro had a 2 pound elk summer sausage on sale. So, we bought one for later. I realized it was about 12:30 at that time. As we left, another bike pulled up and talked to us for awhile.

After the talking and putting on our gear, we got back onto the Broken Arrow express way to Tulsa. Staying on that until we reached Sheridan road, there we got off and headed north up Sheridan. I was needed to get some solid food on my stomach. The low blood sugar thing. We decided not to go to Osage, but Poncho’s instead. Poncho’s is between Sheridan and Memorial on Admiral in northern Tulsa. It is all you can eat Mexican restaurant. Lunch was fantastic. If you are ever up in Tulsa you have to try it.

After filling our bellies, we started the bike and headed south on Memorial. The traffic was driving my wife crazy. So, we decided just to go to the Casino (Creek Nation) on 81st street. The time was getting away from us as well. Pulled into the casino and had to park with all the HD’s and Goldwings. The FJR was the only sport anything bike there. Before we made it inside a guy, on a HD, asked if we get the word out about a new rally he and others was trying to start in Tulsa. I will post that information under coming events tomorrow. We told him we would get the word out. (From the handout it includes the sportbikes as well.). We then went in and donated to the Creek Nation. You know, loosing at the slot machines. I found my wife and told her it was 5:eek:o pm. We hit the door, I knew we had a two hour drive ahead of us.

Leaving the casino, we stayed on 81st street al the way to 164(?). There we went north until we reached Broken Arrow expressway. Geared the bike up to make some time. We drove until the McDonald’s on the turnpike. There we stopped to get a drink and I got into a another talk about sport touring bikes with a couple from Alma, AR. The rest of the trip was fine. Paid the tolls and etc. When we where about 4 miles to Sallisaw, OK on I40, I hit a big bump. That was when I heard alpahwolf grunt and her riding position changed. I was getting real worried she was not talking and barely holding on to me. I knew something was real wrong. She finally asked me to stop at the rest area. When we stopped she could barely get off the bike. The bike had jarred her real hard and hurt her back. We rested for about an hour before heading home. We pulled in as the sun was just out of sight.

Even though she got hurt, our spirits where still real high and it was a wonderful trip. I admit, it was kinds of shake down cruise for us. The big trip in the last of May and the first of June to Denver, CO. That is when we pick up our daughter from University of Denver for the summer.

Thanks again for reading this ride.
