turn signals flashing rapidly

Thought maybe a bulb was burned out, but all bulbs are ok. Running lights work ok as well. The left one started intermittently, sometimes would flash ok, then rapidly now just rapdily. Now the right side has started. I'm guessing a bad relay? Any ideas?

If you switched to LED lights recently that can cause a problem. If not, then I'd suspect your flasher relay if all of the light bulbs are working properly.

No on the LED's... Does anyone know where the relay is located?

In my experience, a flasher will flash more quickly when there is less resistance in the circuit.

You didn't change to LEDs, but did you change or add any lights? Any changes to your wiring at all?

I did change handgrips... (just kidding). No. I have not made any electrical changes to the bike.

I have not had to find my flasher but according to the parts fiche it is inside the front cowling. Price is about $50, though you can probably do better from Gary McCoy. I'm not convinced that it's a bad flasher, but it is possible.

The fiche I use is here. Look up your FJR, section Electrical 2, reference number 49.

In the factory manual there is a simple way to test the turn signal/hazard relay if you have a voltage meter like this.

I would recommend getting or borrowing a manual.

Mine blinked rapidly when I had the side fairings off and didnt properly reconnect or clip them back in. Check the clips on the L and R hand sides to see if they are firmly clipped together.

UPDATE:... Well, after being out of commission for a few days due to jamming part of a staple in my thumb (trip to the ER, attended to by a very attractive plastic surgeon resident from Canada) I was finally able to get back to my turn signal problem. Turns out, I did not have one side completely connected and a bad bulb on the other side in the back. So nothing major. Not sure why the bad bulb would light... oh well. thanks for all the advice. Now it's time to install my new hand guards...
