The Question

Robin

This is a question borne out of the fact that on Caringbridge.org Jaime is talking about how SBR had a collection and bought Tyler a new laptop - but there has never been any mention of the $12000 or so raised as a result of your efforts across 4 or 5 forums

Have they been given the money yet or is there to be some sort of special ceremony?

I trust you and your team implicitly and am not the slightest bit concerned, just curious to know the outcome of the fund raising.

Hope you understand.

Regards

The Answer

Hi XXXXXX.

They have been given the first 8000 of the 127xx.xx. I requested a draft part way though the fund raising process as I knew it would take time. Sending it via paypal would have incurred large fees and they had no "immediate" financial needs (per Jamie)

The remaining money came in the mail to me yesterday. I need to put it in the bank and get a cashiers check made out to Jamie then send that via postal service to her. They will have the balance by weeks end.

As part of our oversight I have copies of all transactions and checks for anyone to view upon request. Every penny is accounted for.

Why they have not mentioned it on the journal is beyond me. I cannot ask them to without seeming a bit out of line.

I am not offended by your question in the slightest. I would be wondering the same thing in your shoes.

Have a great weekend

Robin

Thanks for checking on this!

As you said, I wasn't wondering *if* the money actually made it, I've just never known how they go about it. I'm glad they're taking efforts to avoid paying extra fees!

Somethings a man knows, and just the fact he knows is enough. Good deeds like this one are an example of such. Thanks to Robin for getting this going, making it happen, providing accountability, and for helping our wounded warrior-ette.

Thanks D and SP, it is a valid question for me to be asked. Many that gave money dont know me from adam.. It is a fair question and deserves an answer.

After re-reading the OP's question, I don't think the inference was that you had done anything wrong. It seems more like OP was wondering if Tyler had received the money already, why there wasn't any mention of it here on this site...

to OP ~ While normal circumstances might dictate a speedy acknowledgement and thanks for the contributons, I think the highly unusual circumstances surrounding Tyler's plight at the moment beg understanding. She is certainly in no position to respond directly, having only in the past couple of days regained anything remotely close to lucid thought. By the same token, her recent "mouthpiece", Jaime, has been living under tremendous pressure trying to keep her life together while being with her sister as much as possible to lend moral support and comfort.

Her continued wonderful postings on the caringbridge.org journal have been way above and beyond what could be reasonably expected of someone in her position, and I for one am grateful for her excellent efforts. I've been amazed at her composure and ability to maintain a sense of humor through these dark and trying times.

I'm perfectly happy to wait for any acknowledment from the family for our participation. I agree wholeheartedly with dcarver's take on the situation, and am happy that Jaime has had the chance to have a little respite from the pressures she's been under since the unfortunate injury to Tyler.

Meanwhile, Tyler's return to the "real world" mentally is wonderful, and I'm thankful that Sue has stepped up to continue our updates through caringbridge.org. Rock-On, girls!

Ohhh Please understand..

I am COMPLETELY ok with being asked and offered my answer without thinking twice about his motive.. Here is the deal

If one person asks, there are 50 that probably want to. No Problem. No worries.. I never even tried to gleen between the lines for motive.. I simply answered.. It is a fair question that deserves an answer..

No need to worry that I took it wrong, I took it at face value and answered. It was fair to be asked, for whatever reason.. It probably took gumption to ask where others wanted to but did not..

No worries. I posted the answer to answer for those that wanted to ask and did not

I must be a true simpleton and gullible after knowing the regulars on this forum (odot excepted). Cdogman had posted he sent the money, and I never thought about it or worry about anything but how Tyler was doing. Thanks for all the work and caring Cdogman, MadMike2, other members and admins for their efforts and support for her......

I guess after the other unfortunate experiences people have experienced "here" in recent years, and the outpouring of support and good deeds large and small done in response, I just don't worry much.

Question? What question, never had a doubt. Thanks for finding a way for us to help Cdog. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Sunday 7/26 3:00 PM

This morning’s visit was about gratitude. :yahoo:

I arrived at the appointed hour, cantaloupe in hand, to find Tyler freshly bandaged. She was clear headed and bright. We chatted easily while she ate breakfast.

She wanted to talk about all the cards, notes, postings, gifts and monetary support she has received. I read a few of the cards and brought to her bedside a few gifts. Yes, John, I found the rubber ducky. We talked about the computer that she is still not up using it and the 471 pages, Susan G. printed them, of guest book entries on Caring Bridge.

We had a longer discussion about the over $12,000 donated by so many of her local, national, and international friends and loved ones. Her eyes went wide when I reminder her of the amount. Before leaving on vacation Jamie told me she and Tyler had discussed leaving the funds in an account for now. A wise choice since we do not know what expenses and needs Tyler and Shannon will have down the road. I reminded Tyler of that discussion and she nodded in agreement.

Tyler reflected a moment. She asked me to let everyone know how grateful and blessed she, and her entire family are to have so many generous and caring people as friends and loved ones.

:yahoo:

On a personal note, I had a few things on my mind this morning as well. Tyler has been a friend I seek out to share happy times, challenges and silliness. Today I needed her guidance and she sensed it. She asked me how I was doing and I shared a bit. She offered her usual sage advice. I smiled back and squeezed her hand.

I left a few minutes later as she was tiring. I departed feeling grateful for the gift of having breakfast with my dear friend.

Checks can be made out to

"Jamie Davis"

and sent to

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center

Patient: Tyler Risk c/o TICU

751 S. Bascom Avenue

San Jose, CA 95128

In my correspondence with Jamie it was discussed that Tyler will not be running to the ATM anytime soon. The check I sent, and the one I will be sending today are made out to Jamie per her and Tylers agreement for the stated reasons.

Thank you all for allowing me to "Represent" our riding community. I am humbled
