I'm taking my bike in for the annual safety inspection and I just did a quick preliminary and started wondering if the mech is going to give me a hard time about the lights not working with the engine off. It must be a common misperception that the headlights must work with the engine off, otherwise how could they sell these things in the states. In fact I used to own a VW Jetta and I don't think those headlights worked with the engine off either. I let you know how if goes.

I was doing the preliminary inspection to avoid the hassle I had a week ago when I took the SV650 in only to find that the horn didn't work anymore! Who the hell uses those things anyway?! It wasn't a fuse; the innards of the unit had corroded over time.

?.. the headlight does work with the engine off, key on. I've never had the guy doing the inspection ask about that. Who uses the horn? Well, lessee, down here in Houston, 4th largest city, with legendary traffic, you WILL find it a necessary safety feature...in fact many riders actually upgrade their horns.

The FJR's headlights will work with the engine off. Start the engine and hit the kill switch. The headlights will stay on.

As for the horn, there's probably dozens of peezo horns from blaster induced FJR's on the board if you need a replacement on your other bike.
