As some of you know, I have a very high mileage 1979 KZ1300 in my shop that needs a rebuild.

I'm not mechanic enough to attempt a rebuild myself - and don't have enough cash to afford a true technician..

IMHO, a KZ1300, running through open stacks, is the sweetest motorcycle sound ever made.

While crusing the Inet tonight ran across this...

a V12 Kz1300..

A plain jane, stock 1300 Kawi sound is why I keep mine in the stable..

Like going to the Reno air races to hear the mighty Merlins, if you've not heard the sound it's hard to explain..

And this video doesn't do it justice - but what the heck, some of you might understand.

Sounded like the motor was still cold....probably quiet down a bit once it's warmed up.

speaking of airplaine engines with getup and go... I prefer the sound of the Allison V-12. Made for some great hydroplane races on lake washington. When I was a boy we could hear those babies at the farm in Issaquah, a good miles away!

clicky here

Oh and look Carver, you can still get one for your bike

I know what you mean! I had a CBX that was music to my ears with a Kerker 6-2 exhaust system.

The guy in the video with the V12 Kawasaki has been building those for years in England. He also made V8 Z-1's and V6 H-1's as I recall.

I really do like the subdued power sound that my FJR makes. Sounds pretty good when it gets opened up on occasion.

Word is, it's goin' to market as soon as they get a handle on the heat problem testers mentioned, as well as a sidestand issue and throttle abruptness. It's my understanding that they don't want to repeat the mistakes allegedly made by a large Japanese manufacturer.
