I have an opportunity to purchase a used 06 with 60K that has been repainted silver for $4k.

Owner dropped it in gravel at the end of a steep driveway and rashed one side and decided to repaint bike. Excellent paint job just done this season. The other side has damage to the engine cover (rash that has been painted over with rattle can silver). Some dents in the one muffler from the driveway incident on the underside where they only show up if you put your nose under the bike. Helibar triple clamp and taller windshield. No bumpers or reflectors on the bags. Speedo replaced under warranty with sticker in glove box. 40K showing on current speedo and 20K showing on sticker.

What's the bike really worth? I have 100K on my 04 and would like to use this bike as a stepping stone towards getting a newer low mileage bike. Thinking I might buy the 06 now and sell it in the spring. It'll give me a ride while I sell the 04 and maybe I can make a few bucks on it.

Not sure how much a paint job, changed speedo and 60K plus miles might effect my resale.

Comments???

The changed speedo is a factory recall and should not affect resale. 60k miles isnt too bad either. If the cosmetic issues dont bother you, you got yourself a buy!

With a drop that possibly required a full paint job, I'd want to ride it no hands to make sure it still tracks true.

Buying a 7 year old bike at a good price is one thing if you are intending to keep it for your own use, buying the same bike with the intention of flipping it for a quick profit is quite different since transfer costs are involved and you should be asking why the current owner is willing to sell at the current price. High mileage on a 7-8 year bike that has been re-painted due to a drop is going to be a hard sell to most buyers.

^^^ Agree with MCRIDER. A dealer isn't going to be interested in it as a trade in either.

I'd jump on it for $4k if...the bike was the original color and still had all the reflectors and rub strips.

'007 ^^^^ hit this one on the head, it'll be hard to sell it again (to an informed buyer) with all the questions that are bound to come up.
