After spending time with the extended family tomorrow, my son and I are flying out to Vegas! Five days of, well you know, Vegas stuff. ;) It's his first trip out west so we'll be doing a little sightseeing for sure, but some time will be spent at the tables. Our friends have given us sooooo much "advice" on how not to leave the bankroll there. Counting cards (Blackjack), double odds and betting wrong (Craps), bet black, bet red, some of it is quite comical.

So let's hear it guys. What's your game? What's your "system?"

and

Any lesser known "must see/do's" around the area? I hear there's a $5.99 steak and shrimp at the Hard Rock that's not on the menu...just gotta ask for it.

I've got no system, but a friendly dealer makes all the difference. Most of those dealers are zombies or outright evil. I like blackjack, quick games and somewhat decent odds.

Dixie Ntl. forest to the north is nice for natural beauty, and Hoover dam is closer. Enjoy the holidays, and give a shout when your home and want to ride.

Hmmm...counting cards....if you're really good enuf to do it, is frowned upon... as for betting...

Just put $XXX amount of dollars in your pocket... and leave the credit cards locked up in the room safe...

When you run out of $$$, go back to your room.... and stay there! <G>

I have a few personal "rules" I use...

1. Only bring the amount of $$ I want to lose that day... I love slots, and I count it as paying for the entertainment... You can still find penny slots downtown, I've entertainmed myself for 4 or 5 hours on $20-$40.... ummm... plus all the free drinks, even at $1 a drink tip, it's cheap.

2. If I win decent on a machine, I dont' play that machine again, at least that day. No idea, it just works out that way for me...

3. Unless it's a big Sat nite, I wont' play slots after 11:00 PM.... That's when I like watching the craps and roulette players.....

I don't know where you're staying, but the dealers in the smaller hotels, especially downtown, seem a little friendlier.

Oh, and sign up for the player cards, at least in the hotel you are staying in, or do the most gambling in... depending on the hotel, you can get a couple freebies...

Oh yeah... I LOVE Vegas... especially the food.... and the free stuff...

If you want tickets for a show, check the 1/2 vendors, you'll see them around town.

I usually order tickets on line early, but have also used the 1/2 stuff.....

And if you do rent wheels or bikes (Las Vegas Harley Davidson has about 200 rentals...) the Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon are very short rides...

We picked up the bikes late in the day right before closing, and started very early the next morning..... got lots more riding in that way.

Another cool place is Blue Diamond... it has a great biker bar..... I know it's west of Vegas, but dont' remember the road... it's up iin the mountains a bit...

Have fun...

Mary

Craps was one of the easiest games I ever learned to play. I simply put my money on the table, and they took my money off the table. It's really quite simple!

I go down there every year for "business" and the most I have ever gambled was $40.00. Hell, I just go down for the Titties. They are everywhere, on the streets, the clubs, the restaraunts, the bars, the shows...... Did I mention the titties. Oh and the food and drink. Merry Christmas :yahoo:

The road out to Blue Diamond is hwy 160 AKA Blue Diamond Hwy. Not a bad road and if you go out to Pahrump you will find lots of "Gentlemans Clubs". :yahoo:

There is also a great steak dinner at a small place called Ellis Island (just off the strip). You have to ask for it as well. They also have a microbrewery there. If you go out to Blue Diamond Road, also take the road to the right, off Blue Diamond which will take you to Red Rock Canyon. Great road, lots of sport bikes as well there since it's some of the only curvy roads in Vegas.

There is a small casino by the Rivera on the strip called Slots A Fun. Generally dollar premium beers 24 hours there. The Haunted Vegas tour is EXCELLENT! had a great time. Leaves from the Greek Aisles casino just off the strip near the now closed Stardust. There are usually 1/2 price tickets for this from one of the places on the strip like Tix4tonite.

If you rent a bike, be careful riding it on the strip, too many drivers not watching where they are going, especially at night when a number of roadside attractions are in operation.

Have a great time, I'm heading out there for a vintage m/c auction on 1/11/07.

For some old time Vegas, go down to Freemont. See the old and original stuff that is left.

The Circus Circus casino down there is cheap and you can play Blackjack for as low as a dollar and still drink for free.

Most of the strip is expensive to play but not all. Ellis Island is good, but many line ups. Go to outside patio there.

Blackjack is simple to play, but easy to lose at. Craps does have the best odds, but you must know what you are doing.

Take you time checking out the sites. You can lose your money anywhere, anytime.

Remember, Vegas wasn't built on winners.

What? You mean the winners aren't paying for the lights, the lakes and the extravaganza? Oh dayang, and I thought they were putting all that show on to celebrate the winners. Are you trying to convince us that our losing is what pays for all that "free" stuff? Who'da thunk?

Las Vegas is great. We don't gamble but we go there from time to time. The food and lodging is really reasonable. Even airfare is cheap out there and back. The shows in the evening are superb, a little pricey but cheaper than gambling. What's not to like?

Craps is, imho, the only game to play. Only one where 99%+ of the players don't look like you need to give them a gentle nudge just to confirm that they're still alive. If they tip over..... Thank you, thank you; I'm here all night. Try the veal.

Typically in craps I just put the minimum bet on the pass line, then play the 6 & 8 after the point is established. Check out Quatloos discussion of craps if you really want to know how to play the game, though. https://www.quatloos.com/quatloosia-goodlife/craps.htm

Although obviously it's just a game of stats, I've still developed a couple "superstitions" over the years. SWMBO's and my normal weekend routine (5 days in Vegas? You're my hero.) is to fly out Friday, take it relatively easy and crash around midnight or so. On Saturday we go out drinking and dancing until she's done. Then I take her back to the hotel, get her settled into bed and head over the the Bellagio to play craps until I'm done or until she calls to ask where the **** I am. Usually 7am or so. :) I do still fondly remember getting mooned by a couple of "working girls" on the escalators outside of the Bellagio one night on the walk back to the hotel. Great city, but only in small doses. :clapping:

lived in vegas for 20 years - lived in Reno for 18 - still go to vegas every couple of months and still own a condo there. Been in the casino business for 33 years. here is my advice to you:

1. Determine what amount of money that you can pull out of your pocket and light on fire without feeling bad about it.

2. Whatever the amount determined by #1 - THAT is your gambling budget.

3. Determine how long you want to gamble

4. Divide the amount of time you want to gamble by the number of dollars in #1 - that is your average bet

5. Put that on the game of choice - go downtown and try to find a quarter crap game (good luck) and play craps till you're done. Stay off the prop bets (EO, hard ways, etc.)_ Play the pass line and play some numbers across the top. Stay away from the Field bets

someone else mentioned Ellis Island for Steak - this continues to be a top Vegas bargain year after year. Vegas used to be cheap to eat with all the cheap (and not that good) buffets. Hard to find cheap buffets any more, but the food is much better. Rio still has a damned fine buffet (but it aint cheap).

Great clubs in vegas now - TI has a super club that over looks the pirate battle - the new one in Ceasars is pretty hot and has the pussycat dolls. House of Blues is fun in Mandalay Bay - Hard Rock has a couple - Rio has Voodoo Lounge and Palms has Ghost Bar. All contain multitudes of babes some are even not "working girls". Although the working class might be much cheaper in the end.

Tons of great places to eat.

If you are riding - go out around the Lake (Meade) and head for Valley of Fire. Nice ride and great scenery. Same out to Red Rock (other direction). Mt. Charleston might require cold weather gear as there could be snow up there. or head out to Death Valley.

Boulder Dam is cool, but I don't think they do the tours any more since 911 which was an awesome tour.

Go out to Red Rock casino (way out from the strip) nice new Stations Casino Joint or try their Green Valley casino. more of a locals place.

fun to shop or watch shoppers at the Forum at Caesar's and Desert Passage shops.

have fun and post some pictures.
