Damn, we gotta bring this guy along a LOT more often!!

Thanks for that, James -- had me feeling some of those rhythmic sweepers again there in the middle of that. :yahoo:

I looked in all the right places...just at the wrong time :-( Nice video!

Well, at least I got to get out and have fun on Salmon Falls Road, 193 and other twisties (not to be named on the web)...but the whole time I was just looking for all my NorCal riding partners...

Til next time. Who wants to ride Saturday? Or Friday?

You guys let a Harley join in but you would not let any silver FJR's play. What up with that?

You're welcome, ESB. It was nice to meet you. I rode behind you for a spell; you got some nice lines. I think we share a love of the twisties (i.e., the "sport" side of sport-touring), which made that a really great ride. Have you ever seen my "I Can't Drive 55" video (link below)? That video for me captures best what I LOVE about this motorcycle, and the type of riding I enjoy most, when the group is smaller, say 2 or 3 (I realize double-yellow, uh, violations aren't for everybody :( ):

Heck, we could name all the roads, but why ruin a good thing for ourselves.

Nice video, Hans, and it doesn't even show some of the "more fun" parts of the ride. I'm thinking that some of the more technical stuff was in the shade (it was a wee bit damp in some of the corners) and may not have recorded well, but all-in-all I'd say :yahoo:

Barabus, it was 2 Harleys, one was an Ultra Classic. We haven't yet found out why the owners of Cerulean FJRs won't ride with us. Rogdeb's "disguised '03" was there and Bike Effects was ill or he'd have been there.

Uhm, we're not the snobs in this case! If O'vale had shown up there'd have been one more blue added to the mix. Methinks....well....nevermind!

Thank you. For me, some of the "more fun" parts of the ride were after the stop shown at the end of my video when I was, I think, fourth back from you, and I was able to open it up a bit, combined with some real nice twisty stuff. Trouble was--by then I was out of battery and tape! :(

My video set up is pretty straight-forward, and can actually be seen on the dashboard in the photo at the end of the YouTube video. I just screw it down to the dashboard, hit record, and off we go. The difference I notice between my videos and others on YouTube of motorcycle rides is that I like to keep the ambient sounds of the wind and engine growl as part of the vid, just under the song track.

See ya,

Jb

NICE video JB!

Hey, I'd ride with you guys on my '04...but I'd have to get up pretty early in the morning to get to the meet on time. :)

Open it up? Following me? You must have been confused at the end of the day as I was trying to keep everything at a safe and sane level. Oh, wait....you were following exskibum.....THAT explains it!

Hehehe, James, you and I are on the same page. You'd really love my more twisties suitable, suspension farkled, sport touring '03 Blackbird and some of the Sierra mountain passes that remain the primary reason that IT is my primary carving tool.

And yep, I've already watched and enjoyed that video -- nice one, too. I, too am a miscreant that occasionally violates the solid double yellow line prohibition on a machine that gets around slow cars fast enough that it should be a dashed white for me, I think. But hey -- we don't get no love from the codgers on the forum.

Looking forward to riding with you in the Sierras as the weather warms and the days lengthen. In fact, I kinda feel an urge to do a day or four in the Trinities in the summer -- 96, 3, 36, 299 and more. I can never get enough of that area. On the Feejer, carrying tents or splitting motel costs works. If you haven't been up there to carve twisties, you haven't lived.

It was great riding with you!

I have been fantasizing about a pure sport bike so I can experience what real leaning is all about. The FJR is quick, but she don't like to lean.

I go to the CBRXX.org forum when I need that kinda love.
It was my daring to ask the famous "knee puck" question on the forum that caused a pile on and me to say adios for a couple months. Then as soon as I got back on and posted my I Get Around video was told I ride like horse's ***. To which I say two things: This IS California, Bucko, where lane sharing is legal; and, you might try riding your motorcycle instead of just driving it. But I'd better stop before I get piled on again. CBRXX.org you say....? Show me the love!

A HA -- you got my quotes before I thought better and edited them!! The XX is not a pure sport bike, but a much more "sport" oriented sport tourer, whose biggest flaw is a suspension that Warchild's Traxxion/Penske and Carozzerria wheels Group Buys fixed nicely. LOTS of really smooth motor and higher pegs, among other things. Not as comfortable as the FJR for distances, almost 100 lbs lighter, but nowhere near as grueling to ride for an extended distance as a true 1000, 750, or 600 cc sport bike. Hell, it's what WC uses as his primary LD rally bike.

I remember those threads well, and I mostly kept my head down, but still caught a little flack in the latter for opining that I like to shift my weight for corners. :p

The days are already starting to get longer, James. :yahoo:

Awesome video! Brings back a lot of memories.

FYI, in case you don't already know, there is a resident CHP out in Foresthill that patrols Foresthill Rd that you should watch out for. My father-in-laws best friend is one of the Placer County Sheriffs that works out there as well and claims that the CHP is out there mainly because of the amount of MCs that come up that way and ride Mosquito Ridge Rd.

Also, if you read about Mosquito Ridge Rd on pashnit.com you may find a number of stories about the super CHP that is catching all these guys. What I've been told is that a bunch of those are written by the resident CHP himself.

My FJRs first 3 years were spent riding 193 from Greenwood to Placerville 6 days a week. Man I miss those roads, and the sunshine!

Another FYI, if you are looking on a map and see a road from Colfax to Foresthill and think it might be fun, think again. Yankee Jim Rd isn't really ST country. It's not horrible but it is about 3/4 dirt/gravel.

Also, if you want to see how your FJR handles in the snow try getting from Foresthill to Georgetown in March! There's 5 hours of my life I won't be getting back! Wish I had my camera.

Sorry for the rambling. Like I said, brings back a lot of memories.
