For all of you who have repeatedly stated you would like to help, here is your chance.
There will be over 200 FJRs in attendance at this event and WE are the security for the motorcycles.
As we did in Reno and Park City, our desire is to have a rotating crew standing 1-hour shifts. During the day there is enough activity with the vendors and others in the parking area that the bikes are always under someone's watchful eye. The evenings (over night) is when it will be lovely to have someone alert and present.
There are a couple of fellows with experience (who shall be called Lieutenants or Majors or whatever I choose): FJRay and Bearly Flying who are always of great assistance and will be helping me line the bikes up in an orderly and accessible fashion so that they can be ridden in and parked, then ridden out. Trust me, we DO know how to park many bikes in a limited area.
However, the three of us just can't stay awake 24 hours a day for 3 days and ride home safely. I mean, falling asleep at the banquet and nodding into one's supper is so embarrassing and...well...messy! Soooooo, we trust that some of you are willing to "donate" some time to the collective and volunteer to stand watch at night.
Last year we had enough owners step forward that each person was only needed for a single 1-hour period during the event. That was SUPER and my hat is off to you all. I'm hopeful we can have the same "turn-out" this year.
The "standard sub-standard" disclaimer is in effect. We are not policemen, we are merely observers. Should anything untoward occur, we are simply to report it to the proper authorities. Our PRESENCE at the site, walking around should be enough to give pause to any suspect activity.
Of course, anyone who wishes to help with any daytime parking duties is welcome to PM me or see me at the event, though an unnamed trio of "manly men" have been known to pick up a mis-parked FJR and move it (We still can't figure out why some people insist on parking in an obvious access roadway/alley way!?!?!?). Many have stayed and visited with their "relief" person and those of us who can't sleep or are light sleepers have been known to wander down to the parking area, so it becomes a social time, also.
This IS your time to "rise and shine" in the FJR community. PM me or reply to the thread and I'll add your name to the list.
I prefer that no riders who have signed up for GZ's Iron Butt rides volunteer. You gentlemen (and ladies?) will need your rest before and after your ride. We will be there to assist you when you return and help park your bike for you.
Once I have a list, I will design a schedule so that we begin "watching" from 10 PM through 6 AM. There are usually riders beginning their day rides by then and everyone will need to have breakfast, etc. We will "stand watch" from 10:00 PM EditWednesday Thursday night through 6:00 AM Sunday morning. That makes it 8 hrs. a night X 3 nights= 24 helpers means everyone stands a 1 hr. stint.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
madmike2

Well...that covers the basics. The next 3 volunteers will mean that myself, Don and Ray will not have to stand watch after being on the parking lot all day AND we can start to double up and have 2-man teams. That would help the evening pass faster and provide extra security.
