could anyone who lives or rides in Washington state tell me if the route from Randle on U.S. 12, south to Carson on WA 14 is paved or not.

atlas says it is, but gazetter looks a little questionable. I dont have actual street names they are too small for the atlas.

working on this summers trip route

thanks

Try Google Maps for details beyond your atlas.

This area of the state's roads are often sketchy with harsh winters and spring wash-outs. Last year when I was there one could make it all on paved although I probably did 10 miles on gravel because I took a wrong turn. Lots and lots of roads wander that area. I think I could have found an all paved route, but....like I said...it can get sketchy in this area.

Road status is covered and update regularly here. They call it Windy River Road.

And often talked about on advrider.com like recently here including a picture of a recent wash-out.

Paved.

If you want some fun alternative routes, let me know.

If you stay on Forest Servise roads 25 and 90 they are paved. With the snow pack this year they may open late as in June sometime. Usually they are open all the way through by Memorial Day. The 23 road is gravel fro about 10 miles.

While they are nice and twisty, they are not the smoothest pavement out there due to winter frost heaves. And watch out for the safety patrol, they have no sense of humor.

That being said, the 25 road to the 90 road at Northwood out to Trout Lake and to SR 14 over to US 97 and down through COndon, Hepner, Ukiah and Sumpter is one of my favorite rides for a long weekend loop with the wife.
