Invent a dust free process for smoothing drywall compound!

I've just spent the day cleaning just three rooms after my contractor finished the remodel of my step son's bath. Keeeeeeeyrhist! The dust is everywhere and in everything! Mind you, I'm in the remodeling industry, so I know of the mess that is made, but dayem! I even had him wet sand all three coats with fans sucking out the flying **** in two of the upstairs windows close to where the work was being done!

Oh, my aching back! :(

Already done!

Send your contractor to the rental store. Its a rotating disc on on a pole hooked up to a large shop vac. About $20 a day rental.

I am a drywall taper. I also have one of those vacuum sanders mentioned by fjrfencer. I will admit, they do cut the dust down alot. But after years of doing this work, there is no such thing as dustless drywallers. The dust infiltrates everyplace. Although it sounds like they didn't even try to keep the dust to a minimum if you had to do that much cleaning. Didn't they put plastic up or anything to keep the drywall contained? If you had them wet sand it also, how did it get so messy? On a side point, what did they look like?

TWN, last week I got done with the taping/spackling/sanding deal on an apartment I am putting into the basement of Michelle's house and have already had to hear her complaints about all the dust on the first and second floor and thats in a house with baseboard heat and no air conditioning so there are no ducts for the dust to get into....I can't even imagine how bad it would have been otherwise. Next time I will figure a couple of "immigrants" into the cost of the job and have the place fully cleaned when I'm done.
