I'm not sure what it's called, exactly...but it's the curved plastic piece that sits in front of the seat and under the gas tank. Fuel Tank Cover, maybe? On my 2008 it's silver, but on the 2009's it's black and I like that look a whole lot more.

Any suggestions where to pick one up without breaking the bank, and how difficult (or not) it would be to change?

Rattle can of gloss black, maybe?

Very easy to change.

lol...yes, I did consider that as well but if I can get the part for cheap why not? Michelangelo with spray cans I am not. :lol:

 
Just call Yamaha. That little piece can't be that much, and if it takes you more than 5 minutes to replace, you're too slow.

Try looking that part up on a parts fiche. Suddenly, the rattle can solution becomes very appealing!

 
Dangit I was perfectly content with the way my FJR looks unitl I read this thread and took a look. Why'd they do that part in silver?
