Over the winter I would like to upgrade the suspension on my Gen. 1. A local shop can do the forks for me, but a rear shock is VERY expensive. Anybody have a Wilbers, Penske or Ohlin laying around?

I figure anything will be better than stock? The suspension is my only gripe with the bike. I've tried setting the forks up as suggested, fresh oil etc.

Thanks.

Al.

**'04 Gen I **

Being financially challenged with a worn shock ta boot,

I had my stock shock completely rebuilt by sasquatch suspensions in June 2011.

he replaces everything but the metal case...all internals are replaced, springs chosen to fit your riding. I'm very happy and the shock is still going strong after 1.5 years and 20k miles.

the soft/hard preload lever is still used, as well.

note: now, admittedly, in no way am I a particularily fast rider, nor do I live near any twisties of substance.

total cost to me was $450 paid for the work plus $25 shipping

"I specialize in rebuilding and customizing stock shocks. In most cases I completely gut the internals replacing them with valving from high end after market companies. I then put new springs on suited for the owner's needs and set everything up for them personally. In the end you will receive a shock that will rival much more expensive units for a fraction of the cost.

I can even modify shocks that are otherwise unrebuildable by machining then welding in ports for nitrogen charges."

Could also check with "Gramps" here on the forum. He mentioned someone in Minnesota is doing stock shock rebuilds and it sounded reasonable.

Thanks guys - good info.

I forgot to mention that I'm open to all suggestions (about my suspension :) ).

I had allocated money to buy a new bike in 2013, but this one runs so well it's a 'keeper'!

Was in the same place this last year, went for the Hagon Mono.

Couldn't be happier with the product and the price.

All the best,

Thanks Shane. I've fired off an e-mail to them.

Did you go with just the shock or shock + remote preload adjuster?

As I've had the forks apart a couple of times I'm considering their springs also.

Thanks again.

Al.
