I've been reading about suspension mods for ages, but don't want to take the plunge on a full system, so..........

I've been happy enough with the stock setup, but would like a tad more preload ability for when fully loaded with Pillion, or when trying to keep up with Radman at ludicrous speed.

Anyone have a shim or two that they no longer want/need?

And, what do I do with it, exactly?

If I get mine back on both wheels anytime soon and test ride it I will give you the ones I don't use. If you have some hole saws and some aluminum plate they would be easy to make. The I.D. is 2- 3/16" and the O.D. is 3" . The ones that were given to me are 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4" and i am using the 1/4 to start.

Thanks for the reply man,

Assuming I had one here, what's the procedure to installing one? Is there a link with instructions?

This is one of the things I have not yet found, but I'll do some more searching on the topic.

Thanks for the offer, I'll take you up on it when/if you're ready.

I'll send you a pm with my contact info.

The install isn't to bad. The shock comes out the bottom with the cables attached. The tricky part is compressing the shock SAFELY. I used some automotive springcompressors that I modified. If you don't have the tools or acess to them, take the shock to the shop to have the shim installed. With the tooling it is a ten minute job to install the shim. I will be in touch.

Specs for the shock shim on my bike:

I.D. = 2.13"

O.D. = 2.76"

Thickness = 0.185", vary to suit. do not exceed 0.25"

Material = 304 SS

I have a used '03 shock with 18k on it and a 1/4" spacer (not installed) I purchased from H Mark Lewis (micapeak list owner) when he upgraded to Ohlins. I went for the Wilbers Group Buy last year so this shock / spacer is sitting idle in my shop. It can be had for $50 plus shipping. I hope this doesn't violate the "for sale" rules. I live in the twin cities area of Mn.
