With fall arriving in New England my Yamaha heated grips have chosen now to die. A throttle grip wire has opened someplace inside the grip. I'd rather fix the existing system but will look into something like a Dual Star heater if all else fails. Parts anyone? I would consider a whole kit but it would have to be gosh darn cheap.

Ditto here - my grips just crapped out too - at least the left side. Right side works fine but dealer service guy says it's not fixable and I need to buy a whole new set - yikes! Is there something you could use on my set? I'm going to pull them off and go with some new comfy grips (don't know which ones yet) and go the heated gloves route this time, but if you think parts from my grips will help you, let me know.

MSLPILOT, are your grips Yamaha? The grips are (should be) in series, if one goes they both should shut down. Dunno how you could have only one working  The only way I see for this to happen is for the two wires at the cold grip to be shorted together. An ohm meter would know.

Your dealer is correct, the heated grips only come as a complete kit. My first heat controller was flaky but Good Dealer took it back and gave me a new one out of a kit then returned the 'defective kit' to Yamaha. It may be time to see if after 2 years he wants to do that again...

Below is a little schematic I cobbled together. The two 'resistors' on the lower left are the right & left grips.

Alan,

I've had Dual Stars on 3 bikes now. No problems- and they were installed by a mechanical engineer, not a gifted electrical farkler. And you know that they're easy on the wallet too. www.murphskits.com sells 'em for $30 or $35. Free shipping I think also.

BTW, had my knee operated on today: Repaired torn muniscus. Hopefully doesn't keep me off the bike too long.

Yeah, they are Yamaha grips. I'll look over the electrical based on your schematic and see if I can figure it out. Thanks a bunch.

FJReady - had my right knee fixed about 2 months ago - miniscus repair and cartiledge removed. Was only down and out for about 2 weeks. But I probably should have stayed off longer.

Thanks for the heads up on the Dual Stars. I'll check those out if I can't get these babies working. I can't stand the actual grip part of the ones I have anyway - too hard and my right hand tends to start aching after only a short time. I thought I might try these guys too - wrap around grip, neoprene heaters. They don't cost too much so I thoguht I'd give 'em a try. Bought these today too: clicky - https://www.bikesax.com/Merchant2/merchant...._Code=DSL-XMART Will probably look like **** after a few rides, but they're kinda cool anyway. B)

I think I still have my set that I ripped out of my bike if you interested. I'll look tomorrow and give you a pm tomorrow night if I still have the whole kit available. I went with the BMW grips with the hand gaurds. And yes I will sell them cheap to you. That is if you still are interested in a set. Post up if you do.

MSLPILOT, how did you make out with your troubleshooting?
