Way cool video. I just took the family to the Grand Canyon about two weeks before you went and stopped of at the air museum. It was very windy that day. Interesting enough, in 1976 I worked on a P-51 Precious Metal and a P-38 named Double Trouble.
Thanks for posting, nothing beats the sound of a V12 Merlin! I used to fly tours at the Canyon and drove by Valle daily on the way to work. No war birds then, just Fred and Barney. They still there?
Though the media report said it was a crash, that was far from a crash! It looked like the PIC got her on the ground and stopped in expert fashion! What a shame to have to have had to sit and watch that ol' girl burn up. I couldn't imagine a dry eye in the group. God Damn! That's sad.
Hopefully they can salvage those 3 engines so the parts get recycled to the few remaining 17's that are left still flying.
Ah, hell, the Liberty Belle fire!!!! I don't see why anybody's calling that a crash, except to sell papers. The thing's parked and sitting on its wheels, with everybody climbed out and looking at it. Sorry, not a crash. The fire, though, not good. Big time fuel leak, looks like. Maybe oil, but I'm thinking fuel.
Anyway, my dad flew on that some years ago when it was here, paid big bucks for the ride, got a few minutes of yoke time:
