Starting July 15, 2007 the traffic camera located in the "S" curves will be in full effect. The camera photograph speeders and automatically send a ticket to your home address. If you are riding along the road and notice a white Van or what appears to be an empty police and you are speeding get the check book out. These vehicle loaded with camera will be place throughout the city. They take two pictures, one of the driver and the other of your license plate. During the trial period I am told that over 40 police cars and several fire engines were caught speeding on none emergency calls.

I appreciate what cops and firefighters do for me, but don't write me up if you are going to do the samething!!!!! hipocites, above the law, etc.....

Despite the fact that they may drive faster and the fact that they put in TONS of mileage I'd be willing to be that the rate of accidents in that crowd is still MUCH lower than that of the general population. Give 'em a break. I rarely see a cop driving so fast that I'd consider it particularly egregious. I think everyone in every job takes a little extra liberty with that which they can get away with. I'm sure everyone who works at Staples has nice pens and everyone who works at Baskin Robins gets two scoops for the price of one.

Where are the "S" curves?
The "S" curves are in Hixson Tennessee. The cops and firefighter were caught just like everybody else and nobody was charged because the camera were still in the testing stage. After July 15 if you are caught (Firefighters and Police included) you will be ticketed.

The way my friend in Memphis tells it...he was traveling down a 4 lane city street (not a freeway) doing the speed limit when he was passed by a police car doing about 10 over the speed limit. He sped up and started keeping up with the cop. Well, the cop stops and pulls him over and starts writing him a ticket. My friend takes out a pen and paper and starts writing too. When the cop asks what he is writing he informs him he is writing down his badge and car number to inform his supervisor. Cop growled a warning at him about speed and let him off.

your milage may vary...contents may settle in shipping...yadda, yadda <_<

I know someone (not a close friend or anything) who bought a police cruiser off ebay for $4500 with 70k miles on it...they are "supposed" to sel them with the blue or red taken out of the lenses but his seller did not remove them. He regularly runs from Lexington to Nashville and Knoxville at speeds ~100mph and never gets pulled over. He has passed troopers at 100mph, seen them flip their lights on and as soon as they see the lights they back-off.

As for traffic cameras, I think they suck! Takes the fun out of the cat and mouse game now doesnt it?

That certainly doesn't hurt either. And speaking of gettin' out of speeding tickets....

one question for youse who whining about us firemen and 'dem cops not getting ticketed...

what biz are you in and what discounts do you get that i gotta pay full retail for...

and, does your job involve the acceptance of your own death while helping others?

it all averages out...

bite me and go ride...

Put one of those reflector plate over the license plate. No pics no ticket. Plus how can they tell who you are with full riding gear and a helmet.

I get a 15% discount where I work...WOO HOO!!

I think most people get their feathers ruffled when they see a police car passing them at 90mph with their kids in the car, or if they are off duty and flying around. I see quite a few going to neighboring counties for business, training or maybe to pu a prisoner and they pass me at 90mph plus on I75. I once followed one at 110mph for a mile or so just to see how fast he was driving. LEX not too long ago had a pregnant woman killed by an off duty officer who was doing ~35mph more than the speed limit on a 45mph residential road.

So while I admire the work of police and emergency response personnel I dont think that the deep discounts many people receive at work on merchandise should be equated to a free pass to endanger their own lives as well as the lives of others by speeding, as SOME, not all of them do. Oh, and dont get me wrong, I am no ninny on speed...I speed quite a bit and when caught I pay my ticket...just wrote a check to the Great State of KY last month for $172 in fact.

I believe they are doing the same thing in Dalton as well. Hey preacherman, you ride an FJR ? If you want to ride sometime, let me know, I'm just down the road in Fort. O.
I would love to, I ride to Dalton all the time my wife live to eat at Fudd Ruckers. I am still learning the site so I have not figured out to set up my profile. I tried to load a picture and make some changes yesterday but I could not get it to work. Send me an email when you have time for a ride. Are you planning on attending Star Days in CHattannoga the week of July 23rd.? [email protected]
