Where did you get your list? Being a firefighter myself for 20 years I know that firefighting is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. What you don't find in statics is all the near misses, all the injuries that occur that people don't no about. Your list doesn't mention the fact that the average life expectancy for a firefighter is only 55. Your list doesn't mention that the divorce rate among fire and police is for greater then the nation average of 50%. I have seen in the last year or so several of my friend who had only been retired a few years die before they were 60 again that is not on your list. How soon do we forget! ( 911) I believe that it was the firefighters and police officers running into save the lives of strangers not timber cutters and fisherman both of which are noble professions. Now I could go on and on but I think you get the picture!

I love that....Always pisses me off to see police and firefighters get away with **** I can't. My brother inlaw is a firefighter paramedic and never worries about tickets. Drives like an ***** also.
I appreciate what cops and firefighters do for me, but don't write me up if you are going to do the samething!!!!! hipocites, above the law, etc.....
Despite the fact that they may drive faster and the fact that they put in TONS of mileage I'd be willing to be that the rate of accidents in that crowd is still MUCH lower than that of the general population. Give 'em a break. I rarely see a cop driving so fast that I'd consider it particularly egregious. I think everyone in every job takes a little extra liberty with that which they can get away with. I'm sure everyone who works at Staples has nice pens and everyone who works at Baskin Robins gets two scoops for the price of one.
this ain't 1984. ain't no one "more equal" than another. wanna sew the seeds of unrest, continue to create such class systems. light the fuse and step back.

apple v orange, dude. food places comp or discount meals all the time to emergency personnel. i don't see anyone complaining about that. you also get discounts on firearms and other tools of the trade (and access to some "special" items that the general public can't get for love nor money). however, operating outside of the law when not required by your job (speeding when not in the course of duty - some codes are silent responses) is a different animal. in those cases, cops and the lot should be held to the same standard that those officials hold the general public to. don't like the limits of the law? work to get them changed so we all (citizens one and all) benefit from a proper application (which you can live with without having to make excuses).

maybe because firemen and cops now have quality safety gear, bulletproof vests, improved training, and have adopted the attitude of "EGH" meaning Everybody Goes Home...

and not one of the dangerous jobs you listed is running into harms way to help their fellow human... in fact, all those you listed, clear a path for firemen and police men...

like i said,

bite me
