Jerold called me last week and told me that my bike will be in the first of Feb. I am going to put the bike on the Yamaha card and asked if I could also put the extended YES on there too. His response was "no problem."

17.99 or so is a pretty steep percentage rate so you might wanna stop at YOUR bank when you get home and get a lower rate loan to pay that Yamaha card off. You might wanna check the terms to see if being how many days late can trigger a jump to 24 to 30%.

These card issue folks a pretty slick nowadays.

This story explains why we should all utilize bank financing when not paying cash. When I bought my FJR in Jan of 2007 Yamaha was having a 5.9% (fixed) rate offer that I had my dealer approve me for prior to delivery. The rate beat the bank rate and made since. On the day I went to pick up the bike they told me the special rate didn't apply to the FJR and tried to bump the interest rate to 15.9%. To this I walked away from the counter and into the show room. I called my credit card company and told them I was fixing to make an $11,000 purchase. They approved me and the plastic didn't burn. There was no way I was going to be denied that bike after dreaming about it for 2+ years. As a bonus for the expenditure the credit card company gives me $110 of free gear from REI. I then fixed the rate with another credit card company at a fixed rate 4.9% that include a $100 fee. This held and all was going good till I was informed a payment had been received late and my rate was going to 14.9% and I had a $50.00 late fee. To rectify this situation I accepted another balance transfer offer at 5.9% and had to pay another $150 fee. To date I’ve paid off ½ the bike and am ever mindful of the credit card balance My point is beware of the special offers!

Yeah, them cats are slick, real slick. I was reading the other day where simple things like mailing in a payment can trigger a high rate, ie., like the small print that says that you should allow for 7 to 10 days for your payment to be posted.

Then you send your payment in 7 days in advance and it gets there in three days but it sits in their mail room for another week or so before being posted to your account.

Sorry sir you're late and we have to bump your rate up to 16%.
