Glas1/2ful and I did our first SS1K last Saturday. The weather was perfect as was the ride. My Russell seat was the bomb and after 21 hours and 1142 miles I didn't have any hot spots. I left Sonora at 0400 and drove back into the driveway at 0130 hours. I highly recommend riding a SS1K to anyone with the desire. It was well worth the effort. Below is the route we took. We didn't have much time for photos but here are a few from the trip.

Our Route

Meeting Glas1/2ful in Merced. About the only time that Gen 1 bike was in front of my faster Gen 2 :p

Opps! Day dreaming along SR 395. I need to get my head back into the ride. Found this in an old Forum Post and had to share. ;)

Congrats! Can't wait for my first SS1K. Glad you two had fun and are home safe and sound.

Thanks for sharing Happy. The weather out here has been spot on for a ride like this. It doesn't get much better. The 395 must have been gorgeous.

Ride safe.

Cheers,

W2

Now you can get one of these

(Will I now be abducted by aliens because I've shown my plate?)

Congrats :clapping:

I was up on HWY 166/33 on saturday and I think I saw you both riding by the opposite direction. I was on my fast GenII and LaRoo was on his slower GenI.

Congrats to you both. My SS1K route had some of the same elements as yours notably Hwy 166, which I did in the dark, but didn't enjoy the view near as much compared to after getting my Solteks. I don't remember seeing Brittney on 395, must've been due to the cold temps when I went through. You didn't mention if you have a stock seat or not, which puts more emphasis on the "Saddle Sore" title. Way to go!

First my thanks to Happy Rider for allowing the company... and for posting a summary of our ride. I do have a few pictures that have the truly faster Gen 1 in front, but I'm sure the Forum has widely accepted the conventional wisdom on the Gen 1 vs Gen 2 issue <_< so won't bother :D Actually, the only time he let me lead, I seemed to attract some attention by black and white cars....

My trip was a little shorter 1,093 miles, left home at 0300 and home just before midnight. The weather was perfect, and it still amazes me we could go through so many "habitats" (flat agricultural; coastal mountains (green on the west, drier on the east); high desert, the back side of the Sierras; sea level to 8,000 feet, in the same state. Wow).

I'm glad I tried this routing w/ company instead of a solo shot for my first SS1K. Receipts etc already off to IBA - been cracking myself up with: $75 dollars in gas, a day of my life, $45 dollars to IBA for a $5 license plate frame, but the memories.... :D

and Monday when I headed into work, I didn't want to stop.....

It was great, Dave! thanks - I say we go north next!!

Yes, butt new membership in a VERY elite club, and knowing you EARNED that plate backer? PRICELESS! B)
