Toto El Mundo!
Once upon a time, in preparation for a ride and camping trip up to the Auburn Fairgrounds in 2007, I got a hold of Doug Plumbley (Bugnater on this list), and he agreed to show us Cen Cal guys some roads up his way. We met him in Colfax north of Auburn on I 80 and he guided us up some back roads to Mosquito Ridge, then down to lunch in Forest Hill. It is so kewel to have a local guide, and it used to be a rare occurrence until the internet. Originally, we all met on the [email protected] list, before this Forum existed. Rider access to the internet, has become an irreplaceable thing yo.

...then down to lunch in Forest Hill.
Doug was a great guide and likes to ride so, we have touched base a few times by email and he recently notified me he had time to take a ride down our way. He said he was headed to Monterey to visit some relatives Thursday night, but that he wanted to ride down the Big Sur Highway #One on Friday. By email , we agreed he could crash at my place near Morro Bay on Friday night and that I would meet up with him at Gorda about 90 miles up the coast from me. I put him in touch with my buddy Robert Van Houtte from Monterey to see if Robert was up for a ride. The meet –up to ride, all worked out great after I spied the 2 of them heading into Gorda at around noon on Friday. Ya gotta look close but here they come heading south before the pull in.
Here they are preparing to de-gear?
Oh, did I mention it was a gorgeous day riding on the highway I like to call “the One”?
We rode south from Gorda to Moonstone Beach Drive and had lunch here; Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill
Over lunch, the 3 of us discussed the upcoming route continuing south, which was over Santa Rosa Creek Road, across CA highway 46, then down Old Creek Road to Cayucos, back down to “the One”. This is the summit of Old Creek Road.
Off Old Creek Road this is Whale Rock Reservoir (Cayucos’ & Morro Bay’s water supply).
After re-joining “The One” we rode into Morro Bay and south toward Montana de Oro State Park. Took this picture here looking north toward Morro Rock and the Big Sur beyond.
Friday ended at my house for drinks then driven (designated driver) by my wife and 2 daughters we headed for one more eatery stop here; Bayside Cafe
Saturday morning, Doug and Robert would be heading north to respective homes, and I decided to ride along with them for aways. We ran back up “The One” through Morro Bay to Cayucos, over Old Creek to 46, then took Vineyard Drive through Adalaida to Paso Robles/Nacimiento Lake Road. Turned onto San Marcos road and fueled up in San Miguel just off of CA highway 101. After fuel up, we set out to cross the Salinas river bridge, then turned north on Indian Valley Road. This is the grey granite cap of Indian Valley Road.
We stopped at the Arroyo a few miles before Indian Valley Road turns into Peach Tree Road or CA Highway 25.
Soon after that, I peeled off at the intersection of Peach Tree CA Highway 25 and CA Highway 198, to head west to CA Highway 101 to slab it south back to home. The other 2 headed north on Peach Tree CA Highway 25. This is where they went from the top of the hill where I was watching.
…and I headed this a way on CA 198.
300 + miles total, I arrived home in the early PM Saturday, to find out my goats had busted out of their fenced pasture, so I had a busy afternoon restoring things back to a semblance of normalcy?
Oh, and I had invited dcarver to ride along with us, but he had to scratch his itch somewhere to the south?
