After reading the paper version for several years and hardly seeing a decent comment on the qualities of the FJR whether Gen1 or Gen2, they always use to harp-on about the BMW RT, Kawa GTR1400, Honda Pan, BMW GS1200 and others. MCN this month reviewed the FJR along with two other tourers.

I'm not sure if you can read the review online yet, but the newspaper version is very positive. :D

The competition here is an ST1100 (not even the 1300) and the old BMW R1150RT. They would have to be out of their minds to prefer one of those two over an FJR of either generation. More appropriate comparisons would be to would be with the ST1300 and K1300GT.

Fred, like Andy, I can read the entire article (subscriber). What MCN was trying to do was show their readers what to consider when buying a used and older sport touring bike. The point of the article was to show what sport touring machines were available at a set budget price.

Going the distance on a budget

We test three of the best used big-bore tourers in the £3-4,500 price bracket, the Honda ST1100 Pan European, Yamaha FJR1300 and BMW R1150 RT, to find the ideal way to cover big miles in comfort, whilst being able to enjoy the twisties.

But an ST1100 can be as much as 10 years older than the oldest FJR - it's still a stupid comparison. The ST1300 should have been on the list and it too would have been trounced by an old FJR - then again so would a first generation Concours 1400.
