I just picke up my 06 FJR1300A from Southbay Motorsports in San Diego, CA. As I arrived at the dealer, Ted the owner told me that Katesdad and K9 just left the dealership for a fantastic ride in San Diego. Damn my luck!

After short paper works and prep, I took the delivery of my new Honda ST1300 killer. After 160 mile return trip to Santa Clarita Valley, I came up with following findings.

1. Ergo of bike sucks. I am short height of 5'06". I was not able to seat comfortably. My back was killing me just after 10 miles into the trip. I need to cut the seat down at least 1". Handle bar riser is must.

2. Power was endless. More power than I ever needed. Wheelie as I was getting out of the dealership. (Almost pissed in my pants) In first 5 minutes, I was riding at 95 mph in 4th gear. Oh my God unbelievable amount of torque and power from this monster. (True ST1300 killer)

3. Trany was some what clunky just like my R1100RTP. By the way, I don't need 6th gear in this bike.

4. Windshield sucked. Need a larger and wider one to match BMW quality.

5. Mine also shows 17mpg display.

6. Very soft paint.

7. Very strong brakes. It almost launched me during hard braking next to a bitch with cellphone.

8. Mine doesn't tick, but it whistles at all speed. (It kept me awake.)

Conclusion: Fun bike at reasonable price. Need several mods to fit me well.

By the way KD and K9 how was the ride?

Jim,

Ted called me last night to see how our ride was, and he told me that you had just missed us !! I don't know how you were geared, but we encountered 41 degree, foggy, rainy twisties into Julian. Don't get me wrong, it was a phenomenal ride !!! 342 miles. Oh yeah- It wasn't K9 with me - it was BigDolma!

I watched your bike delivered off of the truck at about 9:30 or so. Ted just loves the color!!

I've now had her for 2 weeks - right at 1,000 miles - and I find that a lot of the aches and pains are easing as my body adjusts to the bike - however, I have moved the bars back, and I am waiting for risers to be engineered - 1" up would be huge.

The bike smooths out with use - mine has become much 'happier' following it's first service. Kinda like wine aging, it gets better with time.

I rode for two weeks without bags - they were installed yesterday. It seems that the airflow around the bike changes with the bags on. It's 'easier' , less buffeting, ride isn't as harsh.

You're gonna love this bike - keep riding it through the break in period, and you will be amazed. Work on the ergos - one size can't fit all. I'm thinking custom seat for myself, even though I can flatfoot.

Well, I gotta get going - I'm setting up for a 450 miler with TurboDave today !!

Hope to see you at WFO-5!

I have only 450 miles on my FJR (raining today), and find the ergos a bit better as I 'learn' to ride the beastie.

But, Jim, I gotta agree with most of your assessment of 'first ride'. My first impression post was pretty much the same. Just longer.

I do care for the bike a great deal, however.... and with some farkles it'll be terrific! :)
