None of these get off's were mine...

The annual Polar Bear new-years day ride came and went w/o incident.

Then there was the Eastern-Ohio romp, which ended the day with 05BlueDevil sliding his bike across the entrance ramp to I-70.

Then this Sunday on a ride with my dad and the BMW club, we had a lady fail to navigate a decreasing radius right hander, go up-over-and off the side.

She was OK, and the 1150-RS was still ridable in the end, but she was pretty lucky. After she took out the road sign she bailed. The RS came to rest head long into telephone pole. She wasn't going that fast, but still...

She was all geared up and walked off a little muddy but w/o a scratch.

Again, I had nothing to do with either of these incidents, but the year isn't starting off all that positive.

Grrrrr.....

Yup, I'm not sure I would either given the current ratio.... Even though I had absolutely nothing to do with either of these incidents. (nore Drew's get off during EOM), if you count that one and go back that far I'm probably 3-10 on rides of more than two people which is still pretty ****** if you ask me.

05BlueDevil's was just a friggin fluke, gravel on an on-ramp that could have happened to anyone really.

Sunday, I was two bikes ahead of the lady that went off-roading and we hadn't even started picking up the pace yet. :/

This is the reason I don't ride with people i don't know.

Just hope one of these strangers dosen't take you out.

Agreed, I'm not typically a big 'group-ride' person, and when/if someone's too squirly on a ride I'll go do my own thing.

Both of these incidents were pretty lame. What happened to 05BD, could have happened to anyone. The gravel on the ramp, heading into the sun, you just didn't see it.

As for what actually cause the lady on the BMW to wreck, I don't know. It's a bad corner, period, and we weren't traveling that fast, and IMHO no one was riding above their skills at that point. Although I guess you could say perhaps she was since she didn't handle the situation. What ever that was.

Just reinforces how easy it is to go down.

"the Law of averages" suggests that you should be a safe riding companion as these incidents regress to the mean.

And yes, yes you engineers... I know that technically that the odds of 3 get offs prior to #1 is statistically very unlikely but after the fact the odds of a third (or more) are unchanged.

I think that people want to ride the way they did before winter and forget to slowly re-introduce all the mental and physical properties of riding skills in the spring. Not only that, there is a lot of sand and foreign objects etc on the road in the spring and tires are quite cold and not so grippy.
