playing with the bike today - pulling stuff off and the inside is stuffed with foam.

I would have removed it but with all the problems with Heat, I thought maybe this is something to do with heat / air movement.

Even foam down on the bottom - near the center stand.

Did my dealer leave this stuff in?

pretty sure it's supposed to be there. i noticed it to right away, but we all figured it was for the heat issue. too bad it shows.

Hm.....foam....I'll bet we are going to have some overheat issues on the 06's.

JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSS!!!!! STOP! Don't touch the foam! The fookin' ice caps are melting fast enough and I'm at 7' above sea level! You tryin' to kill me or sumpin'?

Found this pic from the Osaka Assembly Plant. Industrial accidents are somthing only the working class has to endure. If you were a concerned citizen, you'd send the bike to the union to help them make their case against Big Manufacturing.

Chickey,

I suspect you are speaking of the grey piece of foam down near the shifter. If you look closely, I think you find it is firmly glued to the panel. It also appears to be a special heat resistant foam block. Don't take it out, it was intended to be there, though the position of it looks rather odd to me and I am not sure I can see how it blocks much heat. It may just deflect the air flow from the exhast header away from your left foot.

If you look on the right side you will find more of it on the inside of the mid section panel.

good hiding spot for yer weed, right guys!

heat resistant hmm. maybe odot could keep a beer in there.

i noticed it right away, asked service guy who put my bike together, he said it is supposed to be there. seems like it would just melt to me, must be some special stuff. what happens when it rains and that stuff gets soaked???? maybe adds some ballast to enhance handling in the wet ;) ;)

...be sure to use the "tin foil" method of changing your oil filter. Otherwise the oil pours down into the foam at the bottom.

Let's not go and remind me about that. At least some good came out of that scenario. Except for the last beer being a pain, I learned how to open a beer with another beer. Here, let me pat myself on the back for that.

I saw the foam when I picked up my 06, and I asked the mechanic if it was suppose to be there. He said it was to dampen vibrations in the fairing. This was at a large dealer that has sold a lot of FJRs, and they might know what they're talking about.

So, guys with older models, has tupperware rattle ever been a problem? Anyone lose bodywork screws from vibration?

Of course, the 06 has slightly different fairing -- maybe the vibration problem (if that's what the foam really is for) is peculiar to this model. Whatever the reason, I accept that it is intended to be there.

Does anyone know where we can find more of that heat resistant, thick foam? Home Depot has the thin skinny stuff for doors, but its not sufficient. I found out after my installation of the Moto Sliders, the new brackets did break an opening for more heat. So my leg does feel more heat than usual, but would like to make an even seal.
