Anyone bringing a teenage child? Either of mine would love to come, but I'm not sure that Reno is the best place for kids.

several posts back someone mentioned the old auto museum and another posted that it is still there.

Yes and no -

the old museum was Harrah's auto collection. Essentially Bill Harrah's private collection. Several hundred million dollars worth of that warehouse was sold off back in the early 90's. 350 to 450 million worth were donated to the Auto museum located downtown on Mill St. - not far from the Hilton. While the museum is much nicer than the old warehouse (cars were parked so close together that you could hardly walk around) - there are significantly fewer (and less desirable) cars available to view. However = it is still a pretty cool display. It is set up as "period" city streets (or it was the last time I was there). 30's street - 40's - etc. Kinda cool. Check at the front desk or concierge. There are usually coupons available for discounts.

there is some hot air ballooning around - (someone asked) but mostly in the winter. Lift in the summer heat is harder to come by. However you can probably get a ride out of Tahoe or Truckee. There is also a glider port in Truckee (just across from Northstar - on the back way to Lake Tahoe.

there is now a kayak course on the downtown stretch of the river - but not sure it will be functional that late in the year (depends on how much rain they have had).

Used to live in Reno - for several years. May try to run up for the festivities. Was there briefly last year from the outside looking in --

no - actually it was the CBR crowd I was there visiting.

horse back riding, golf - swimming - fishing, kayaking - lots of outdoor stuff.

better shopping than there used to be

Virginia City

Pyramid Lake -

Tahoe

jet skiing, boating and skiiing at several lakes - plus stampede reservoir.

Dirt bike riding galore.

Define teenage child  ....between 13-19?....15-20?
Well, I guess I'd define teenage as between 13-19 (sort of "by definition") ;-)

In my case, I have a 13 and 15.

My 13 yo daughter is attending - my 19 yo son might, if he's not working this summer.
