Ok, per Mapsource...

... but if you take old Hwy 40 from 174 just north of Colfax,
I think it's telling me this is called Norton-Grade Rd. It also looks like you eventually turn onto Magra Rd. (at least that's what Mapsource calls it) to parallel I80 to Gold Run...

then at Gold Run, after crossing back over to the north side of the freeway, we make a left on what I think is called Lincoln (?? -- a small inconspicuous uphill tee intersection off the Gold Run frontage road that dead ends a ways up if you stay on it),
Yes it's Lincoln. You turn off of Gold Run Rd. onto it, then from Lincoln it becomes Gold Run School Rd.

Back across the RR tracks and left at the tee onto the road that runs between the Dutch Flat exit on 80 and Dutch Flat,
The road after the T is called Ridge Rd.

but we stay on that good sweeper stuff until we make a left to go through Alta (is that called Bonnie Doon?),
Mapsource has it as Alta Bonnynook Rd.

proceed through Alta to Baxter, where we have to get on 80 east.
Think I've got it now... :)

Here's what I think that section looks like....

And fjrvtx... I plan all my GPS routes on the PC, using Mapsource. I also rely heavily on the "help" button.. Once the route is the way I want it, I download it to my GPS using the USB port.

Groo -- you're a hi-tech wizard with that new fangled GPS stuff. Looking at what you've printed, I believe you've nailed it. (And the road names sound familiar, too.) :yahoo:
