Here in Georgia for 87 octane I paid $3.73 on Sunday. I actually put 6.01 gallons in (that's the lowest I've ever been on gas so far) and it cost me $22.41 to fill up.

I heard on the radio that parts of CA are seeing $5.00 a gallon already! Is that true CA guys???

Not too get too political or anything but I've also read where the U.S. has untapped oil reserves that could easily make us the #1 Oil Producer in the world within 10years if we just actually went out and started tapping into it. Plus they estimate it at a 100yr supply as well. This $4 & $5 gallon of gasoline is absurd! And it's also absurd that the U.S. has to import most of it's oil from the always uber-unstable middle east.

Self employed small business contractor type guys that have to fill up their pickup trucks a few times a week at $100 a pop or more makes it pretty difficult to make a living when your weekly gas budget is eating you alive!

87 octane is at 4.40 a gallon in my area and diesel is at 4.60. It costs me around 22 bucks to fill up the bike and over 200.00 to fill up my truck with a 40 gallon tank. Sometimes I have to swipe my card 3 times to fill up since it cuts off at 75 bucks.

Thankfully I work from home and only use my truck to pull my trailer to the desert on weekends. I have 48,000 miles on the 08 FJR and 40,000 on my 05 F250 :D

A little over $20 in Oklahoma. And as for the untapped reserves, yes we have them but oil is selling for more $/bbl overseas so companies are exporting instead of keeping it here. There are a lot of reasons for this and a lot of solutions but those get into the political arena. But, as long as I ride to work I am still ahead from filling up the Yukon XL.

it's about 3.25 for 87 octane here. 4.2 - 4.7 gallons runs under $20. i fill her once a week or so riding to work.

Hey Roller:

It's 3.75 per gal. in Spring Hill Florida today. Competition and the free market is a wonderful system. However, it doesn't work so well in an industry driven by speculation and fear. Basically speaking, the amount speculators THINK crude MIGHT cost in the future drives what it sells for today. For example, all Iran has to do is make a couple comments about blocking traffic in region, and mount a credible threat that they MIGHT do something nuclear one of these days, and the market goes berzerk. Iran gets to laugh all the way to the bank. Sad to say, they're not the only ones gouging the public. All our gas comes from a handful of refineries in America. They have their spoon in the pie as well. The big oil companies are making some serious profits right now - and have for some time; check the numbers. Two things we can try - to deal with it: decrease demand/increase supply... or get government to jump in. I'll stop right there before I get in too deep but as it stands, we can look forward to paying through the nose. That's why my cage is a hybrid.

As much as we complain about $5/gallon gas, take a look at the rest of the developed world, and gas prices are a lot higher.

That's all well and good, but a lot of those developed countries are a lot smaller than the US too. So the average mileage per person per year is much lower. We drive a LOT. Especially rural areas, where gas is really expensive.

It costs me around $20 to fill the FJR if I let it get really low, but I remember when I could fill up my '73 Buick for less than $20 and my dual-tank F150 for around $30. Now my truck costs around $70 to fill. When I bought it, I almost bought a PowerStroke...thank God I didn't. With the cost of diesel being around $.40 higher a gallon, they have to be crazy expensive.

What I can't believe is that the cost of normal goods has not gone through the roof with the cost of fuel the trucking companies have to be dealing with. Eventually, we'll hit our limit of what we will tolerate, but until then, who knows how high it will go. What I think is stupid is that now, people are thrilled that "gas is only $2.50 a gallon." We are becoming less sensitive to the increased cost of the stuff, and oil companies are posting profits of $50billion dollars per quarter...

I'm in the wrong business...

Stop whining. Gas is what it is...supply and demand...plus taxes on top to keep the roads from turning to crap. I hate it as much as you guys do, but I'm DEFINITELY not gonna stop riding the FJR because of it. If anything, it may make me ride my FJR more -with commutes to work.

The solutions to high gas prices are not in the purview of this board, unless it's gonna make you sell your machine. Are you?

I didn't think so. :)

I agree. The extra cost of gas is not going to stop me, I may take less trips though. Hell a weekend trip out to the desert with my toys costs me a small fortune in gas but it is worth every penny. Truck = 40 [email protected] = 184.00, Trailer generator gas 30 [email protected] = 132.00, Gas for bikes 15 [email protected] = 69.00. thats almost 400 bucks before adding in Beer and Food.

I paid $4.23 here in San Diego, and that is the cheap station. 5.7 gal * 4.239 = $24.16. I have half a mind to start conserving now!

Agreed!

Wow they got you fooled eh?!...see above post for the reality of the situation.

And nobody is suggesting you stop riding your motorcycle because of higher gas prices. If anything we'll all be riding them more, but not for pleasure, more for just saving money because they typically get better mpg than whatever vehicle we own.

---------------------------

My intent was not to turn this into a controversial politically heated debate, so I would like for us to avoid that if at all possible. However cost of living and rising gas prices effect all of us. I cannot "choose" to not drive or ride to work. I have no choice. I live 45miles one way from my office and If want to collect a paycheck and take care of my bills I must go. I don't live by my office because it's not a good area anymore.

We are a Gas & Oil dependent nation. We have been for over 100yrs and will be for the foreseeable future. The US is a large developed country and our entire commerce structure is based on the Hwy system for cars, trucks & semi's. Very few things effect all of us on a weekly basis like rising gas prices. And when Oil companies are raking in record year & record year of profits it really has nothing to do with supply & demand. Like Gary said it's largely based on fear & speculation more than anything else and I tend to agree with that.

If gas rises to $10 a gallon I still have to drive/ride 90 miles a day to work. It is what it is. We don't really have a choice. That's why "Stay-cations" have become a common word now. And when we don't travel, we don't spend money, then people get scared and hold on to their money, then companies cut back, then the economy goes down. It's a vicious circle...but one we could fix...if we really wanted to as a Nation IMO.

regular is about $4 in DC suburbs. I bought the bike to ride, it gets twice the mileage of my car, so I am not sweating it. Best fun ever for $4 every 40 miles. :yahoo:

It was $4.29 the last time I filed up. I don;t run a half tank just so I can foll myself into thinking, "..it's not that bad..." Yeah right!! We are getting hosed!!!!!!!!

3.79 in Lake Havasu for Unleaded 87, And 4.10 for Diesel.

Bring your toys to Havasu, And i'll buy the 1st beer. ;)

$3.89 for regular yesterday. Last time I filled the bike was January 1st, 1 or 2 more little rides and I'll need another fill up, but that won't stop me from riding.

A good resource, if you're looking to find out the price of gasoline throughout the U.S., is gasbuddy.com Prices are reported by the public so the prices listed are usually quite up to date. It can even save you a few cents in your local area (as you can comparison shop) at stations you may not be aware of or frequent regularly.

So we make a choice. There are motorcycles out there that get double the mileage the FJR gets. Most of us could buy one and some of us own one. However, it's a joy to ride the FJR and worth every dime. I'd still ride it as much as possible even if it got significantly less than 42-44 mpg around town. At the end of the day, it's all about choices. For example, I'd love to have a 1970 SS Chevelle. I could buy one tomorrow if I wanted it. But the Hybrid is a better car for my needs. I could also buy a MC that got 100 mpg. But I don't want to ride around on some 2 wheeled putz-mobile: I'll take the FJR and pay for the gas... gladly.

Ya know what? Thank God for the good health He's granted and the job that enables us to pay for it all. Most of the world couldn't even hope to own an FJR. We got a lot to be thankful for, especially with this lousy economy. We be ridin' in style - even if we gotta pay 4 bucks per gallon to do so.
