I was talking to someone about the FJ and that I was planning to do a quickie oil change after the intial ride home from the dealer to remove any possible floating metal from the ride and then do it again at the 600 mark. I figured I would throw in Yama lube and be done. They said to get "BREAK IN OIL".

What is this creature and where does it live?

Break in oil is a tightly guarded secret...only the Keebler elves and the Easter bunny have access to vendors that supply this special product. Therefor the rest of us just use non-break-in oil.

I remember years ago we used to break an engine in with non-detergent oil. I don't remember why. No special oil that I know of for breaking in a modern engine.

That was bad info. Get whatever oil gives you a warm fuzzy.

Read the first couple pages of THIS THREAD. There are a few nuggets of good info pertaining to this topic amongst all the flak.

Yeah....I start off by drinking a whole bunch of my fave beer....milwaukees best. And fjrchik can attest to that. After that, it's a matter of collecting and dispensing the product. Much like gossip. Ever seen "break in" oil on the market? The greatest lie the devil ever told was convincing everyone that he didn't exist. Isn't that true, fjrchik? :p

That's it, fencer....put skoot in his place. That specially designed seat for his rear must get uncomfortable anyways.

Uhhhhh, OK. I'll have to politely decline any offer you make to buy me a beer in Reno.

:bad:

:nuke: :puke:

And thanks for letting me remind myself why I don't drink beer. Nasty!

It depends on whether its an FJ 1100 or FJ 1200, If the oil is in an FJ 1100, ya might want to change it, the bike is over twenty years old.........
