Beautiful day for a ride today. Didn't have any idea about a place to ride to, so just picked some local roads I had not traveled before.

Yep, their're cutting down all the scenery.

and Charles Lindberg dropped by before he was famous.

Then I came upon a thing that begs the answer to Why?????????????

and what if there is no why?

Could this be the ultimate Barn Shot

Gonna have to do this more often, just pick a direction and get lost.

Years ago, the road probably went through there on top of the snow, and he thought it would be a good place to park until spring.

Many times I've enjoyed the spectacular scenery and twisting mountain roads here in Central Illinois. As a matter of fact, I was up in your area just a week ago watching folks fire pumpkins across the plains.

I agree that most times you don't have the opportunity to really get away on a ride, just have to make the best of what's close. Nice pics.

Just checked the GPS, says I got a max altitude of 826 feet above sea level yesterday.....................no wonder I got a nose bleed.

and then again not all crashes are air related.

Lotta small family owned farms went down in this crash.

Makes me sad remembering, sad makes me hungry, time to go find lunch.

Found a small place on IL 71 North right off I 80.

Grumpee's a retired Marine Corp Gunny, guess that's what makes him grumpy, but he does like to do it right

1/4# dog sweated on a low heat turn table. Mmmm.

 Cats are literate, who knew?

DSCN0446.jpg

Just down the road from Grumpee's is the Village of Norway, IL.

Yes boys and girls we have Vikings!

From here the Norsemen spread out to conquer other strange and exotic lands ..................like...........Mmmmm...............Iowa.

Must be true got it from the guys at the local gas station.

Big Day for me.

Had to make a trip to Galesburg today, old friend is in the hospital, then down to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy to explain to his elder brother why he wouldn't be down to visit this weekend, but yes he was going to recover just fine.

No motorcycle, I took the car.

Wanted to take Eldon's brother to lunch.

I did make a few stops along the way.

First stop the big Blue Chair, yellow chair in the window is standard size.

Always makes me smile.

Edith Ann where are you.

had to include Richard Pryor, after all he was a big star and from Peoria, IL.

Next stop Abingdon, Il. and the tallest totem pole East of the Mississippi River.

After a nice lunch and claiming Eldon's brother down.

Made a stop by Fishhook, IL.

DSCN0477.jpg

Why you ask?

Because Fishhook was home to a big man.

DSCN0475.jpg

A really Big Man.

DSCN0476.jpg

and a photo of the entire town of Fishhook.

DSCN0479.jpg

Sundown on the prairie time to go home.

It's been a Big Day.

Today was the first day I had a chance to take the bike out for a real ride since we installed the rebuilt forks and shock from Traxxion.

Thought I would go check on the fall colors.

Fall Colors Slideshow

Looks like the fall colors aren't quite ripe yet.

But the new suspension, spot on, it's great.

Nice to see a midwest ride report. I stopped in Galesburg this past summer for gas while on a trip west and was shocked I didn't have to prepay. Must be good honest folks living there.

Nice! We'll have to try and squeeze in a run to SW WI to give the new suspension a work out before the snow flies...

I was going to post up later, hoping for a good weekend for 26, 27, and 28th.

Maybe get Wheatie to share some of his Dodgeville routes.

Galesburg is a cool old railway town to bad you didn't get a chance to look around.

Might want to google it for railroad days, and the annual stearman biplane fly it they have ever spring.
