I just noticed (I know, you should read all the instructions first, that Mother Yamaha recommeds that you do not exceed 85 mph with side bags on the bike as this will cause handling problems. Has anyone run into this? I've hit the ton with them on, and noticed no change in how the bike handled.

135 mph no problem with bags on. Closed corse and profesional driver B)

I've sure been a bad boy.

I have had mine up to about 110 indicated with no problems.

:assassin: Now you let me know I broke the rules, I won't be able to sleep for at least 2 minutes. :assassin:

Hmmmm.....Yamaha has their butts covered I guess. Having ridden the bike all from FJR Nominal to FJR Max.....the sidebags have never been an issue. A top box though can affect things.

At 150+ I have noticed the sidebags *lighten up* the handling. Going straight down the road is no problem. But I have initiated a slight weave on my own on purpose by gently nudging the handlebars that doesn't occur when running the same speed w/o the bags. It's not a big deal as it goes away on it's own, but it's definitely a little different than w/o the bags. I am guessing the front end is getting a little lite, partially due to the aerodynamics of the bags, partly due to more weight on the rear (assuming bags are loaded). Let me repeat, it's not that big a difference. And at sub 130 speeds, I don't really notice anything at all.

I would say don't worry about it. It's lawyer-speak for covering their ***. I mean, they also say not to run a top box and the sidebags at the same time. WTF??

130 indicated, bags lightly loaded (<15lbs o' stuff in each), steady as a rock

Can this forum be used for self-incrimination?

I have not experienced the side bags making much difference at speed, but the top box (especially riding 1-up) can make a difference...most apparent with crosswind and other vehicle turbulence. Have found that that 'tail can wag the dog'.

Lawyer speak

My BMW was maxed at 75 MPH with the bags, according to the owners manual.

I would not worry, but me personally, I would have them off if I were to go into the triple digits

151 indicated, 147 GPS, with side bags, no problem. However, at about 90 or so on Interstate with Yamaha Top box, very noticable handling issues.

135.7 GPS Ceritified, both bags at 25lbs each, rear seat bag another 25 lbs, with rear set to hard position, no sweat, just steady on down the highway. :yahoo:

and as another has already mentioned, Closed Course--Professional Rider

Been there too SkooterG, rev limiter in 5th gear, speedo said 155ish. nice and stabile

"I know a guy" who is said to have done 145 mph indicated with wife on back, side bags loaded, tank bag loaded, early Sunday morning, no traffic, clear field of vision for three miles or so: Bike was working hard, running out of breath, but was steady as a rock.

This "guy" was of course not me.

I have seen an indicated 155 with the side bags on and lightly loaded with no issues at all. I haven't been above 120 with the Givi E52 yet, at 120 I didn't have any issues at all.
