Hey all you Eastcoasters,

I'm headed to Knoxville, TN from Upstate NY via Delaware Water Gap, Chatlottesville, and Blue Ridge Aug 17 or 18th. Anybody know of routes to avoid along the way? I've read of ticket problems in TN on the Dragon, which is a hassle I don't need. Is there an alternate route to Knoxville in the southern part of the Smokies?

Any help would be appeciated.

If you go I80W to I81S, around Harrisburg, PA where it drops from 65 to 55, be careful - there are places there where it's a double fine. Then, after Harrisburg, as you approach Carlisle, same thing. They patrol that entire 55mph area pretty heavily.

Around Wytheville, VA, I recall it being patrolled pretty heavily, also.

Also, as I understand it, In Virginia, if you're caught 15 over, good chance you will have a mandatory court date. However, this happened to a friend of mine and she hired an attorney in the area to represent her and she didn't have to be present. She still got a fine, but, it was reduced and she didn't have to go through the agony of going to VA for the court appearance.

If I were going from Cherry Valley I'd take Route 10 to Deposit and then go West to I81 either on 17 or a couple of back roads. If you're in a hurry than you could take I88 across to I81. Going down in NJ to take I80 will get you into lots of traffic.

If you're going to the Delaware Water Gap for a specific purpose then staying on 209 across to I81 might be more interesting than I80. I haven't ridden that section of 209 in many years so I don't know what to expect regarding traffic and lights and such.

Another option would be to take I84 across to I81. You can pick up I 84 around Port Jervis and take it West to WilkesBera. Traffic will be much lighter than it is on I80.

Shoot a PM to herfjr. Ask her about the route that she took when leaving Carlisle, PA to get to upstate NY. Not sure if you wanted to do backroads for some/part/all of the trip.

Thanks Geezer,

I plan on doing the back rds to Port Jervis from C.V. then to Stroudsburg. It's from Stroudsburg to Front Royal that I'm not familiar with. I want to stay off Interstates as much as possible.
