My son ran into my left saddlebag with his bike and put a nice scracth and gouge in it. I tried repairing it with the colorite touch up pen and it looks like ****. It's an o7ae which a blueish silver metal flake. I'm I better off having a body shop repair it or order an aresol can and try to do it myself?

Body shop for sure and make your son pay for it or work it off, if he's not too young to do that...

Definately, body shop

My 03 was stolen last year and although the bike was found, the bags were taken. I bought a set of missed matched used ebay bags ($300, which is at least $1000 less than new ones). They were a bit scratched but solid. I picked up a can of Scotch brand spray on rubberized bed liner, sanded the covers, and sprayed on three coats. THEY LOOK GREAT! They now have a rubberized finish that looks much like the old Krauser's. If I ding them again I'll just get out the can and tough them up. No more worries of scratching those beasts that always seem to be hanging out in harms way. ScottB

I gave the luggage rack on my '03 the same treatment. Now I really don't care what a bungee hook does to it. Actually looks pretty good, too. I've heard some do the plastic below the radiator with the same stuff. Gets all beat up, just shoot a new coat.

Anybody got a link for this spray-on bedliner stuff?

To avoid that I bought the Sidecase protector sell by Sargent, easy install they prevent boots scuff, but not son accident

Scoot,

My brother-in-law is an auto refinisher (painter) of the first rate. I showed him all the marks from bungees and other scuffs accumulating on the painted rack on my '03. He showed my a '69 Camaro RS he was rebuilding frame-up and showed me a spay-in coating he used in the trunk which had a new pan welded into it. The stuff was fairly glossy (semi-gloss) and had a slight texture to it. He suggested we shoot the rack with the same material, especially considering he had some left over from the car. Wow! It came out very well, looks good and it is a tough finish that holds up to abrasion and scuffing well (I ride with a bungee-hooked tail pack on the rack a lot). It has been on since the spring of 2006 and still looks great, is not peeling or anything else. Best, it doesn't seem to oxidize from the elements like some bed liners I've seen that get real flat and gray. But I sure can't tell you the brand or even exact material. I may do the valance below the radiator as it is badly sandblasted. I have even considered doing the leading painted edges of the panniers as they are getting pretty badly nicked and chipped.

I was having a front tire put on at the local shop and they SCRATCHED the right side bag, and offered a new one up front :glare: , but I have a friend with a body shop that did a great job on the bag. Actually, I had him also touch up the tank scratches from a dust storm in NM, and paint the helmet to match the bike. Not cheap, but still cheaper than the side bag at their cost. The way I look at it, I saved them $15....but it was still WAY more than $75!
