I looked all over this forum for an answer to this question, T.W.O. shows Schell rottela full synthetic T6 15/40 w oil in his video I can't find it around my area ( Armstrong, Vernon B.C.) They have 5/40 bin the T6 or they have the T5 blend (not full synthetic)15/40 ok to use? or should I bite the bullit and go buy the expensive stuff at the mc shop!?

I buy my oil at either Walmart, Canadian Tire or Partsource..try Lordco in your town...if they dont have a motorcycle oil, they will order it in for you.

The owner's manual is very clear on this. There is a chart in the specifications section that offers you a range of viscosities to choose from based on the expected range of ambient temperatures that you will be riding in. Other than that, you need a JASO MA rated oil.

And now.... off to NEPRT....

Hell, everybody has an answer and they are all right cause it's the internet.

Like Pant's said RTFM and follow it. I use Delo 400 15/40 in everything that comes into my shop unless they bring their own.

I usually use the Shell Rotella T6 fully synthetic which is 5W40. Sometimes the regular Rotella T which is 15W40. Either is just fine (300,000 km on my '07).

As said, use a suitably rated oil as per the owner's manual. Depending on the vintage of your bike, it will have either 40 or 50 at the top end in the manual. No change in the engine - just that Yamaha stopped carrying the 40 in a motorcycle oil!

Read the manual..... ha! How 20th century of you fossils. The all new and modern way is to ask faceless people on Facebook and take what they say as gospel. Im in the middle of talking a guy through hemorrhoid surgery on his sheep on another forum right now. Where is Oswego anyway?

In before NEPRT. <end of message>

OK. It's been a few minutes and I feel a little guilty, so I'll try to be helpful. Don't laugh; we all know how rare it is for me to be helpful.

From Yamaha's online owner's manuals at this URL. If you live in the Frozen Northlands (ie anywhere north of Memphis) you should probably be using 10W oils at this time of year.

Disclaimer: this is for the 2015 ES models. I am certain that other years and A or AE models will use a drastically different oil formulation.

Did you not get an owners manual with your bike? The Internet isn't always the sole source of info. Best to RTFM.
