Has everyone move to either coast? No traffic here since August.. Wake up folks! :clapping:
We are all off saving the world, feeding small children and in our spare time we patrol the skies for wayward astroroids. We'll be back soon.!!!!

SW-FOG is a once a year event, if it happens. Kinda hot in AZ during the summer though. Maybe you have a great area in mind for a get together next year. . . Never too early to make a stab at it.

rarely does the same person repeatedly organize the same regional ride...sometimes its just good to pass the mantle to someone else and let them have a go at it.

I tried and failed last year. Someone else can step up! :dribble:
I don't think you failed, I think WE failed you . . .The only other place in AZ would be to have it in Springerville/Eager area for some 666 action & a loop thru N.M., maybe to Silver City for lunch. Plenty of nice places to stay & eat up there plus not too far from CO, NM, & TX, etc.

Silver City has a lot going for it as a rally destination (IMO): good available lodging (motels, B&Bs, camping), one good-sized motorcycle shop (plus a couple others), really nice day-rides in the area, and (maybe most important?) year-round access due to it's proximity to I-10.

Whereas, Springerville/Eager (nice as that area is) can, sometimes, have an access issue due to weather and altitude -- especially if considering certain approach directions and a wide spectrum of calendar dates.

SW-FOG could conceivably put-on an event when others are constrained by weather (high-altitude areas, excepted).

Just some thoughts.... :)

Haven't heard of problems around Springerville with weather in the summer except that it's cooler than here ! Been riding up there since the early '70s to camp around Hannagan Meadow area. I would think Silver City to be a bit far south to attract peeps but there are some very nice rides from there . . . .

You're correct -- Springerville has nice Summer weather -- it's really a nice, interesting, area. But, they have a ski area nearby, some places kinda shut-down for Winter months, you can see snowmobiles (if you look...), etc.

My intention was to broach the idea that SW-FOG has the opportunity (due to relatively warm locales) to put-on an event in a season not quite so full of rallys/events/tours,etc.

There's usually no shortage of places to go during the Summer months.... Just sayin'... :)

Well throw out an idea ! Can't get many out of the bad weather in the winter though . . .

I usually make a trip or two during this time of year over to Silver City just to get away and another or two to SD. I missed you in Tucson a couple of weeks ago.

I'm thinking a mid-October date would be the best.

Cooler but not cold.

Monsoon is done and less likely to have rain.

Besides, the spring and summer are bad for me to break away from work. That's Wildfire season in the SW!!!

Why not Albuquerque or Santa Fe? Lots of good roads within riding distance and plenty of lodging, nightlife and other stuff to see. Also, both are freeway accessable, so getting here is not that hard.

Edit: I guess I forgot to write that if people wanted to come here to ride, I would help get things set up. I have some good connections. Seems we're still sleeping though.

I haven't been to any of the places suggested. Let's do them all! 1 in June, 1 in July, 1in August, 1 in Sept. and 1 in Oct. We can pick the best for the official SWFOG get together!

I'd be game for sure! But if it were scheduled in the May-Aug time frame I could not commit...because of work.

I'd have to be last minute and then might get called away at a moments notice still.

Soooooo..... If we had a SWFOG gathering.... How many folks might be interested in attending?
I'm interested, assuming it's NOT going to be in southern Arizona in July

On a different note, would it be too big of a stretch to say that west-central Colorado is in the Southwest? Probably, BUT I just happen to be "affiliated" with a mountain resort that's more than capable of handling this kind of an event. I'm not really in the position to organize an entire event (t-shirts, swag, etc.), but I could certainly take on the lodging and dining organization. Regardless, I can certainly get a bid for the person that eventually steps up to organize SW-FOG (and I know somebody will ;) ).
