When does high miles matter?

I will ask, it does seem the seat flares out a bit more than I need but his ***/frame is not wider than mine? He's taller than me but similar sized.

I've taken seat cover off of different stock seats and cut the bottom foam an inch or so with the contour and put the cover back on, this lowers the seat with no cosmetic difference.... maybe I could try that with this one? I save the cut out and re-install for resale with no ill effects. Hmmm.

I just sold my 2006 with 98,000 miles. It purrs like a kitten. The only issue it ever had what a noisy cam chain tensioner that was replaced under warranty.

And do as the others are recommending and buy it with the Russell seat. You should try to get used to it, but if you don't you can always sell it and have the buyer swap the OEM seat to you.

Those "Flares" are critical for support. If you are planning ANY distance riding- do not cut the seat.

The seat is made for comfort while RIDING and not comfort while sitting at lights. If you do not plan

to ride distance then sell the seat and buy a stocker. I run the stocker around town, but on trips its the

Russell all the way. You won't appreciate it until you do some distance without it- then with it.

All maintenance documented (just written down is good enough, many don't even do that) and 30K on an FJR is not a lot. Things do wear out though, tires, batteries, stuff like that. If they've been done recently, then I think you have a pretty fair price. Otherwise it cost you money right away.

BTW: I have a Custom seat (Rich's) and it was the best investment in being able to ride 12 hours a day on trips. Stock just doesn't work well for most people so, be wary of getting rid of the Russell unless it just won't work at all for you.

Just things to look for.

I bought my first GenI FJR with 26k on it. It ran like new. I was the 3rd owner. I think it is now on its 5th or 6th owner. I am about to buy another this weekend...GenII with 13K.

I just picked my 2006 FJR up 3 weeks ago. It has 47,500 miles on it and I bought it for $6000. The owner was prob late 40's and he bought it new in November of 06. he wasn't a hard rider to the bike like wheelies or anything. He had all service records and had a major service done some where in the 23,000 mile range. He just had the fork seals replaced 3 weeks before I bought it. the tires were replaced last the fall of last year and look like new. He changed the oil every 3,000 - 35,000 miles using amsoil. The items that came with the bike were 4 extra oil filters, 2 qts of amsoil, all records, a tank bag and the riding gear he had for it and the gear all fit me!! He commuted 76 miles a day for work and took a couple of long tour rides since he owned the bike. I have it in the shop right now for them to go over it and to have the major service done on it like the valves, etc. this way I know when the service was done and take care of any issues it might have now.

So in my case I don't feel like I got a bad deal and I wasn't too concerned with the " higher miles " with all the records. The bike was also kept in very good condition and no scratches on the paint. It was garaged at home and at his work place.
