So, the 4th falls on a Friday, and many of us will have a long weekend. I've managed to survive breaking the news at home that I'll disappear sometime on Thursday the 3rd and show back up sat night or Sunday. Anyone have any good travel plans? I'm thinking about getting a tent and visiting the hill country or something. If anyone wants to join they are welcome.

Where are you going for the 4th?

Well, I am heading for the hill country too, but different hills. I am headed to those smoky mountain hills. Come on up and I can show you some great roads.

Well, I guess I know sorta where I'm headed. Just reserved a campsite for Thursday July 3rd and Friday night July 4th at Goose Island State Park in Rockport Tx.

Goose Island State Park is located at the southern tip of Lamar Peninsula amid the bays and estuaries of the Texas Gulf Coastal Bend. The mainland portion of the park is comprised of a live oak, red-bay woods which contain yaupon holly, American beautyberry, coral bean and wax myrtle. Also on the mainland is a portion of tallgrass prairie consisting of bushy bluestem and saltgrass. Wildlife observation and photography opportunities include white-tailed deer, raccoon, armadillo, fox, squirrel, cottontail rabbit, and over 300 varieties of birds. The endangered whooping crane feeds on berries and blue crabs occurring in the coastal wetlands around Goose Island State Park.

From here, I'll ride west to explore local roads all day Friday, then back to the campsite, and sometime Sat. I'll start winding my way back to Dallas. I hope the weather cooperates

Well, thats my plan! :yahoo:

Well, I usually find that its just way too damn crowded during holiday weekends for my taste. This is one of those times that I'll probably stick close to home and just hang with family and friends.

For those of you who do decide to venture out, do me a favor and keep an eye out for the drunken idiots out there...

If'n y'all want to dive into the fray my band, (The Bob Bass Band on myspace) will be playing at the big shindig in Bandera. I cant vouch for the coldness of the beer, but I promise the Blues will be hot ! It should be a good time with food , games, did I mention beer? Hope to see ya there. I'll be the goofy blond guy with a red Les Paul playing entirely too friggin loud !

Be safe for the weekend in any case !

Blessings,

Bobby

Hey I'm doing the Canadian thing for the 4th of July.... I'm going to MICHIGAN!!!!!!. Yay. We're taking the bike and the car to visit relatives in the UP. The best part is when I leave to go home I'm going north to Sault Ste Marie and around the lakes back to my home. And then....and then ...... NAFO.

The only riding I will be doing on the 4th is in the Bobcat I have rented with a 60" brush mower.

At least I will get to ride for the Chicago Land area get together on Sunday.

the plan is to do this loop clicky

..but a lot of 'real life' stuff to get done today to make it possible. Might end up being backup plan which is a loop into orygun. Hope to stick with original plan though.

Yep, hope to stay away from the masses ...will hit smaller and smaller roads until i do if need be. m Also hope to hit a bunch of patriotic small towns.

I am just planning on riding to the dropzone and doing some skydives. I'm in the houston area if anyone has a better idea or wants to fly, let me know.

Did you know that all skydiving accidents can be prevented? Yes, I read the onion.

I don't think I'll even have my FJR til the 5th...... :(
cool Eric, I'm glad your still interested in one. let us know when you get it!
Thanks...I am going to try and go to Houston tomorrow to get it....so I should be able to ride it a bit on the 4th. If that doesn't work out, then I will be headed down there on the 5th....either way...I should have the FJR by this weekend if I like what I see when I get there.
