OK, first the request..for the busy, then the story. I'm looking to take my wife to lunch from the address below, to somewhere not too far away that I can get to without ever getting on a freeway. In fact the smaller/less crowded the road the better. I'm sure many of you know place around here, please advise.

I'm located at:

3900 Swiss Ave. Dallas TX. 75204

Now the story. My wife and I lived in AZ before coming to Dallas. She did not mind going riding on my bike at all. It was really easy to get to very nice places on pretty deserted two lane roads. Now we are stuck for awhile in Downtown Dallas and the expressways (rightfully so) scare her a bit. I miss having her go for rides with me so I'm adding a rider-passenger intercom, plus just bought her a cool summer riding jacket and gloves. Now, I'd like to test out the new stuff next week by taking her out for lunch, but I want her to be as comfortable as possible, thus avoiding the freeways. When we were in AZ I always found the best places to eat on the bike, but schedule here is pretty busy. Hoping some of you could throw in some good restaurant suggestions and routes.

Thanks!

If you like art the Dallas Museum of Art is right down the road from you on Harwood. There are two eateries there and it is a pretty relaxing atmosphere. There is a J.M.W. Turner exhibit going on now, along with some other special exhibits. You could also go up Gaston to the Lakewood Village area, several places in that area to eat. Unfortunately, everywhere you go from where you are located you are gonna be in traffic. My money would be on the museum, nice, quiet, and pretty close. If you ever get up to the Frisco area give me a shout. I'm always up for a ride or something to eat.

You are right in the middle of urbanville bud, you need a freeway to get to the country from there. Depending on what day and time, you could cruise Turtle Creek area (close) and try Bubba's on Hillcrest. Snyder plaza is there with lot's of food choices too.

It's almost not far enough to bother riding, but you could take her to Motopia Cafe. It's a Euro-snob, upscale, fancy-dancy coffee & food-motorcyle shop/restaurant. Very strange and interesting place. Cool architecture and interior design too. https://motopiacafe.com It's located on the southbound Central Xpwy service road just south of Fitzhugh.

I was going to suggest Clark's barbecue in Tioga. It is a classic N. Texas motorcycling destination. However, it's a bit far if you cannot use the highway to get up to McKinney or so. Maybe later :)

Lunch is good on a weekend, shouldn't be much traffic. She's gonna have to get over it sooner or later. Like Hotboot said, your in the middle of the metromess. Tell her about my commute and how I ride to uptown for work. No problemo. Easy squeezy. Do you have a trunk for your bike? That always help the passenger feel more secure. Its more GoldWing like.

Thanks Guys (and Girls.) for the advice and suggestions. Hotboot, you don't HAVE to take the freeway to get out of town. With careful navigating, you can get from side streets to county roads to farm roads, and so fourth. I have managed to get out of town without seeing a busy road once, but then I ended up following a service road along a railroad track and ended up somewhere in mesquite. Wasn't much there for the eating though! I guess I should have specified distance and time. I'm basically y looking at keeping lunch down to a couple hours so my boss don't get too mad. For the downtown suggestions, I've taken her to Motopia before and yea, its too close, the idea is to go on a bit of a ride, 30-40 min. We will have to try the Chicken place sometime, on a weekend (not approaching finals.) Chik, telling her about crazy urban warrior women will not help me thinks. :vava: I don't have a trunk but will get a backrest when I can afford it. I guess I need to fin a good place to eat about 30 min away and route it using side roads to bigger roads and so fourth. Last weekend we went to the SaltGrass (ask me about the ROACH) located on the other side of Lake Ray Hubbard and that was ok, but pretty ugly city roads untill we got near the lake. Anyway, thanks and give me any other suggestions you might have and I'll let you know where we go.

Try your luck in winding your way up to downtown Garland.New Italian place called Ventoni's and has good food, intimate setting and if your taste is toward chicken then go to Babe's at Beltline and Garland Ave.Also in Garland on Saturday nights at the Square in Downtown Garland is a music lovers dream. If you play guitar or sing it's a good place to pick and vocalize with the locals.Lots of old style country music and blue grass.Ocassionally there will be a few jazz players with the saxes.Tuesday night is good at Blue Goose in Addison.A lot of laid back Euro bike owners as well as sport touring riders. Fat Daddy's is at Buckner and Garland Rd.Bike night is Thursday and more in tune for the HD/Cruiser/Custom set.Lot of fun though with the DJ and karioke. From where you live nothing is better than riding past White Rock at sunset.Last but not least you gotta watch the freak illegal stunt show at Sonic on Northwest Hiway at Garland Rd on Thursday night.Guaranteed to make the wife wince!Occasional police chases and crashes always liven up the party before everyone heads off to the street races somewhere in west Dallas.
