I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Mityvac for clutch and brake fluid changes. There's this one:https://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp#06820 for about $42 and there's this one:

https://www.solomotoparts.com/product.php?p...=482&page=1 for about $67.

The more expensive model is made from zinc alloy and has a pressure gauge. Is either really needed for the once a year job? Would I need a pressure guage for fluid changes?
You don't need one wiht a pressure gauge. It's useless anyway.

While the small Mityvac can do the job, but I found that it was

a pain to keep having to empty the tiny reservoir and that's

what made it messy.

Here is one that I'm thinking of getting to replace the tiny Mityvac:

Years and years ago I bought a plastic MV for automotive use – testing sensors, pulling vacuum on actuators and such. The piece of shit only lasted 20 years ;) To use it effectively I always had to tee in a vacuum gauge. I think one of the things that did in my plastic MV was pumping reactive chemicals with it. I replaced it with a brass body (now zinc) MV, with the gauge. I find the MV a very useful tool.

If you are only going to use it as a brake bleed/fluid removal tool the plastic model without the gauge is fine.

I took an old metal topped glass jar, and installed into the cap two barbed fittings with O rings from the local hardware. Voila, a 1 qt bleed jar. I’ve used this same jar for >35 years with no problems. The jar & lid have withstood all vacuum levels, a few drops and all nasty fluids.

Yeah, I have a plastic one with a gauge, bleeding is the only thing I use it for, and the gauge is completely unnecessary.

It would be nice to have a larger reservoir, though.

Gunny!

I have no issues with the MV I bought, it's your deluxe model and I paid $24.99 at Kragen about 5 years ago. I think you can find one for far less then the quotes you have at your local Auto parts store.

One thing about using the pressure gauge. If your tubes do not have a VERY good seal, it'll pull air past it and will appear to be a leak when it's actually bypassing other places.

Good luck.
