I have Sirrus in car but want to add to bike and know they offer some plug n play units that would work w/ my power outlet. Anybody using any of these and what type of system are you using for mounting hardware? Thanks.

I have a Sirius Starmate Replay (I think it's named the Streamer GT Replay in the US). It's mounted on the clutch reservoir lid using the mounting plate that came with the unit, which is screwed onto a Cycle Solutions standard satellite radio mount I ordered from cyclegadget.com. Mount comes with two longer screws that replace the OEM lid screws. I currently use the unit's power cord plugged into the power outlet in the glove box but I intend to install a permanent power wire this winter. The unit's stock magnetic antenna can attach onto the cyclegadget's mount but I don't get great reception with it there - seems sometimes my body blocks the incoming signal - so I used some velcro tape to mount it to the top edge of the windshield. I'd love to find a whip antenna or some kind of mast to mount the antenna onto that would get it above my head but I haven't found anything yet - in the meantime I'm going to mount one of the antennae that comes with the home kit onto the top of my Givi E52 to see if it will improve reception. For audio I have a set of helmet speakers plugged into a Boosteroo velcroed to the underside of the cyclegadget mount, which is plugged directly into the radio receiver, which allows me to use the receiver's volume control. The buttons are a bit small for gloves, making the selection of stations and other options an adventure. I make do by spacing my favourites apart and on different bands so I can be sure of easily accessing at least 12 presets.

When it's working it's pretty good, and the variety is better than a little MP3 player running on a little battery that invariably dies just after passing a long line of cages and having a long open cruising-speed highway ahead. But I do somewhat miss the local programming you get on FM radio, like news, weather, radar and accident locations, etc - if only I could find a compact FM/satellite radio receiver...

I run the Sportster unit that I use at home, in truck, jeep, & motorhome. It transmit to my am/fm radio. It's standard mount is silicone sealed above battery and antenna is mounted on removable windshield mount on top of my Escort X50 radar detector, AM/FM radio is small sony sport model made for joggers to mount on their arm but I have it siliconed to clutch master cyl....Doesn't answer your question, but another way to go...

I have an XAct receiver but place it in my tank bag instead of mounting it.
I have an xact, too. I took the foot of their crappy mount and because I have a cup holder right in front of my power outlet (and also an auxilliary input for the car stereo) I bought a piece of something like 3" PVC pipe and had some tin laying around. covered the top - with the tin and beat it into shape. Wrapped it with colored electrical tape and mouted the plastic foot mount for the Xact. fits in the cup holder but is easily removable. just uscrew it from the foot and throw it into the tank bag.

though I 'm thinking about the new sirius stilletto - NICE

OhioFJR1300-did your unit come w/ a charger? I went to Sirius website and was getting ready to buy Starmate-on special for existing Sirius customers but did not see a cig lighter charger either w/ package or sold seperately. Do you have an outlet that you can use?

I have a Sirius X-act also mounted on a techmount stand. I used the suction cup mount provided with the unit for windshield mounting and just screwed it to the Techmount stand with a wingnut. The X-act is about as cheap as they come so they are fairly disposable if something goes wrong with them. I even keep it on in the rain with a ziplock sandwich bag covering it. I run the power cord through the hole in the bottom of the glove box and power it with the socket.

Now we know where the name Valueman comes into play. That is a great idea, very nice, think I have a trip to Home Depot in my near future. Thanks for great tip!

sjarr7,

all sat radios come with a cable for power (cig lighter plug on one end). I cut that plug off and ran the wires to my aux fuse panel. You could just cut the plug off and add an in line fuse and hook it to your battery (just remember to un plug the Sirius radio when you are not ridding, as I have heard that they do draw some juice even if they are turned off.)

Thanks OHIOFJR1300. Got radio installed w/out any hitches. Works good but do lose reception more often than in the car. But overall it would have to be concidered a success!

I just replaced my Sirius Sportster for a Streamer GT that has headphone jack & volume control on right side - also a bit smaller. No longer need FM radio - just plug into Autocomm or headset and you're good to go...Cost $9 after rebate off ebay...

shopping the rebates is the way to go. i got the receiver, the home and auto kits, and a boom box for $150 through woot.com. i then got 2 different $50 rebates on the receiver and a $30 rebate on the boom box. not a bad deal for a $20 bill.
