I've been halfway looking at bluetooth headset options waiting for the technology to mature a little. I recently saw a new option. I was wondering if anyone here has tried the Whistler product. I believe it may be a rebranding of the IMC Camos 300, but I'm not sure.

Cycle Gear has them listed at $99 for the Black Friday Sale, which would put 2 units at a lower cost than the Scala Rider Multiset.

I like the FM radio reception of the Scala Q2 (primarily in commute situations), but wish it had real stereo.

A little background on me:

-Zumo 660 mounted

-Phone is bluetoothed to Zumo, so calls would be routed there

-I don't have MP3s loaded on the Zumo currently, but would likely use that as a MP3 player

-Most of my miles are commuting alone. Occasional weekend rides with passenger (who wants to talk)

-I've been a good boy all year long and want Santa to bring me something nice

Thoughts?

it looks good, I have never heard of it but you maybe right just rebranding. The bike to bike is not mentioned as far as distance if it matters.

I saw one in a shop I happened by today (I've been looking at these too) ... it seemed pretty sturdy, I'd prefer it had a radio, but otherwise the price is right.

I'm looking at the cheaper version since I don't care about bike to bike (I'm using it for my ipod), and it looks like the 2xxx series gets a lot better battery life.

If anyone has one I'd be curious to get their impressions

Well, it's so wonderful when you update your bike through bluetooth headset. I know this shop https://www.accessorygeeks.com/bluetooth-headsets.html that is many many nice stylish headsets you can enjoy and choose a good one. I also get Sony Ericsson BT Headset. That is so convenience of Bluetooth?wireless technology. adustable ear hook make it ideal for daily use, enables the user to answer/reject calls by voice control, carry your HBH-PV700 around your neck with the practical strap when not in use. You can answer calls and adjust volume with buttons on the outside of your headset.

Damn! For $99 you can't go wrong! I'm getting one as my wired solution which has served me for years is finally about shot.

Okay, I missed that. Went back and looked again....nope...can't see it. Where did it say $99.00?

I saw $219.95 as the price of BT headset (Stereo).

If their specs for bike to bike are accurate, they are a little disappointing. 330 feet runs out pretty quick...

We've been well over a quarter mile apart with the Scalas and they are still kicking.

Maybe these will go further if they are in the line-of-sight?

If you don't need bike-to-bike none of that matters though.

I've tried several of the "add on" bluetooth solutions, most recently Motorolla's, primarily for rider to passenger communication. My observations:

1. Volume is king. Any headset you can't hear above 35 mph becomes useless. Most simply don't have enough juice for me and my passenger.

2. Stereo makes a huge difference. Here, 1 + 1 = more than 2.

3. Fitting an add-on to your existing helmet may or may not work well. Even the best add on that crushes your ears simply won't be used.

4. Anything other than a full face or flip up helmet simply produces too much wind noise in the microphone to become useful.

Finally, I'm moving away from add ons, to integrated helmets. I've got on order a pair of bluetooth helmets:

Pros: low cost - most integrated bluetooth helmets cost $500+ and this one is half that

Cons: across "the pond" - not sold here, so limited customer support.

I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Click on the Black Friday link in the first post. $99 is the sale price for that day only but you can pre-order it now.

Was just about to order two of these myself and decided to look carefully into it.

This link on the ST Owners forum led me to this link on WebBikeWorld and an excellent review. Be sure to read the user comments at the end as well to render your decision. I am really on the fence and considering biting the bullet on a more expensive wired system.

I've been hella good this year, so I think I'm getting a Zumo for Christmas. I'd really like a headset and system to communicate with my passenger (so I can thank her for the Zumo!)

I ordered 2 sets which should arrive Wednesday. I'll let everyone know how it works.

I've returned stuff to cyclegear before and they're just down the road if it needs to go back to the store. I figured it's worth a shot at this price to give them a try.

I ordered 2 today myself, given the return policy. Will give them a good try and also try and report.

I used chatterbox FRSX2. worked fine over considerable distance bike to bike (easily 1/2 mile) and intercom was excellent. has input for XM and MP3. supposed to work with some cellphones but I never tried it. newer unit has bluetooth capability. helmet speaker fidelity is pretty good (not as good as ER6i earplugs.)

You have to remember though, this is Bluetooth not Family Radio Service (FRS) or General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) such as 2 way radios. Your even supposed to have a license for GMRS or at least used to. Most don't though. The Bluetooth is no different then the one you wear for your phone in your car or just out, so there is not going to be much distance. For within 10 meters though, I think it will be fine! Aleast for my wife and I when we're on the bike. That's all I need.

I was seriously considering one of these under the original brand ICM Camos. For the $99 price I purchased the Whistler rebrand. One of the things I like is that they offer several different bluetooth adapters for accessories including GMRS radio.
