That way, when you motor off with the back wheel still tethered to a post and the ground comes up and smites thee, the damage area will be approximately the same color as the surrounding paint. As to how to handle sore ribs, you are on your own.

So tell us, oh Mighty Dickf, how do you know this? (Or should I ask? )

Inquiring minds want to know....

How much crack YOU been smokin' ?

I think one could pull the same stunt with a manual clutch, if one was so inclined. Got any video?

Look for it on America's Funniest... or in the 2006 Darwin Awards.

If this is a serious post, I'm trying to figure out why tether a brand new bike to a post? Just a cable lock brain fart? OH NO!

Purchase thyself a "Remove Before Flight" pennant and sin no more, my son. Go in peace.

Oh, this is good!....PIX please!!

Oh, I dunno. I've seen a couple of Cerulean panniers and fairing scraped up.....its ugly no matter what the color of the bike. Of course the white/light grey primer under the blue provides an interesting contrast.

This is why I hate locks. Disk locks, cable locks, all of em. The only thing they succeed in doing is trashing bikes.

How many FJR's have you heard of being stolen anyway?

If your really concerned about security, you would be better off installing an alarm with a pager.

Here's the deal. About six years ago I nearly had a new (600 miles on it) CBR1100XX stolen out of the parking lot at work. The only reason the thief didn't get the bike was that Honda had just gone to a deeper, more fool proof lock. So all the thief did was ruin the ignition/fork lock. After that, the company provided a place to park bikes and a railing to tether them to. So I did that for a while until I sold the CBR1100XX and went back to riding a CBR1000F. Believing that the 1000F was less desirable, which it was, I stopped locking it to the rail. Now comes the FJR1300. I don't want to loose this one any more than I wanted to loose the CBR1100XX, so I secured it to the rail with a cable. Unfortunately the habit pattern had been set by the 1000F (no cable) and yes, I took off for a foot or two with the bike cabled to the rail. And yes, to tossed me on my side and scraped up the bile a bit. Fortunately I had frame sliders installed before I left the dealer, or the damage would have been worse. I figured from day one I would drop the bike sooner or later, because although I am 5' 9" (but shrinking), I am on tip-toes handling the bile where I was able to flat-foot the Hondas. From now on I am going to sequester the bike key in a place that will remind me to unlock the cable (maybe). I do plan to put an alarm (probably Scorpio) on the bike without the pager function.

Bummer Dude, did anyone see you pull off this fine manuver? When I got of my gravel driveway (by 1 inch) and onto the slick mud last winter I plowed her over on the left side, Mokos helped but still cost 2 c notes to replace stator cover and repaint hardbag. Doesn't sound like you damaged the family jewels, eh?

I'm obsessive/compulsive about a lot of things but this isn't one of them. I've never used a cable or disc lock on any bike and I've never worried about it. Theft insurance puts my mind at ease.

Of course, my '05 ABS is the first bike I've ever owned that I paid more than 4K for and is actually worth stealing.

I have had a car stolen and that caused some paranoid fears to linger. But nothing that wasn't replaceable.

In my case, I backed in so the afternood sun was shaded over the side stand. This is Arizona and I am parked on asphault. However, nosing in and placing a pad under the side stand is a good idea. Thanks.
