So I recently bought my '11 Tacoma double cab, short bed. Love the truck! I just recently also sold off my 01 BMW F650GS Dakar, that fit in the back, but with a few inches to spare with the tailgate down. The wheel base (seems) shorter on the BMW. Has anyone fit a FJR in the back of a Taco? Reason being, I'm looking for my first FJR and I'm almost willing to drive anywhere to pick it up, and would need to transport it.

Thanks!

Check for yourself. We have a handy FJR Model Comparison Matrix that has TONS of information including the bike length, width, weight, etc. It was one of the sources we suggested you review when you signed up. Compare to your year Tacoma specs and you'll be golden. (if it's a 5' bed...you're going to be tight even with the tailgate down...maybe angling it will help)

You know, i had seen that comparison yesterday, i just couldn't remember where and what forum it was on. That answers that then! Thanks lol

Looks like the wheelbase on gen2 is right at 5 feet. I'm definitely going to have to drop the tailgate, and possibly reinforce it/spread the weight so i dont bend it.

And remember it's a hybrid measure. Center of wheel for the rear, but it's the front of the wheel for the front. Add the radius of the wheel and tire....and it's probably another foot or so.

So will it fit? I'm betting only angled with the tailgate down...
If you have this guy sit on it and then angle the FJR with the tailgate down it will fit! Trust Me! However, use a 4x12 as a ramp for Adam!

I've got a pretty hardcore steel ramp i inherited from a friend. problem im mostly worried about is getting it up the damn ramp with the amount of sheer weight this thing has. worse case scenario i may have to bum a trailer from someone and take the trip.

you will have 900lbs on that tail gate as you wheel it in.. good luck with the tailgate cables and tail gate.. Mine broke with a sport quad weighing 550lbs with me on it.

If you can find a ditch to put the rear tires of the truck in, the ramp approach angle will be decreased and keep the bottom of the bike from catching on the tailgate assuming it will support the weight.

I do haul my dirt bike with a tool box in front of it but would not attempt to load the FJR in knowing the tailgate limitations.

I've resorted to this for the FJR

Please make sure somebody with a Youtube account is running a video camera when you load it!!!! :p
Totally....totally doing that now..

You would be better of to put a hitch on the feejee and tow the Toyota.
i may actually try this one day, just to say i did!

I read that the tail gate + cables were reinforced for the latest year taco's. Either way, im still not sure of putting the fjr on the tailgate for any length of time. Love the rims on your taco. Is that the 4cyl? Unfortunately i didnt get the 4x4 :( . A trailer may be my best bet, or a fly and ride. either way, i've got a feeling im going to be in for a road trip!

Would not the 900 pounds to tailgate only apply if both wheels were on tailgate at one time?

Either way, too much weight.

Get a crane.

You're welcome!

I think he's thinking about all of the bike's weight being on the ramp before the front wheel gets into the truck, but he forgets that one end of the ramp is on the ground, and that end carries enough weight that you wouldn't want it sitting on your foot.

Myself, I still woundn't put an FJR on the tailgate.

More i read about it,more im going to look into towing it somehow...

I had a hell of a time loading my f650 when i had a front tire blowout on it while on the interstate. Then my old ninja 250 felt heavy for me. i'm 5'7 and only weigh a measly 155lbs. Getting the fjr to the back of the truck will take me out!

Smart move. I got trapped under a BMW R100 and spent 20 long minutes in incredible pain before escaping. And no one around to hear my yells either.

Drive the truck to the airport. Fly to where the FJR is and ride it home. My first ride on the FJR was down the block and back. My second ride was just over 300 miles right after I handed the guy the check for it.
