I know that there have been a few that put GenI mirrors on a GENII so the mounting must be the same?

Edit: Here's a picture of AGirl's 07 with GenI mirrors:

In a search, I found this little quote:

Twisted throttle.com has mirror wideners for the fjr 1300 and the fz 1. They are in the sw-motech page @ $59.99
I bought and mounted a pair for designed for the fz 1 [ fits 04 thru 07 ]. They fit the 04 & 05 mirror stalks just fine, but will need a little shaving on the sides to make them look OEM for the 06 & 07.

The bolt mounting holes for years 04 thru 07 are the same. Maybe the same for earlier years too, haven't tried them.

On my 06 the mirrors moved out about an inch. I can now see what is and what isn't behind me.

Sorry, no pics.

The search I used was through Google. To do this, go to Google, type whatever you are searching for, leave a space, then type- site:fjrforum.com

It will look like this:

Dude, your starting to sound like MM2!

Well, it's not Friday yet. Twas it Friday, I would dogpile the living **** out of him. But, it is still Thursday for another fifteen minutes, so I will do my MM2 impersonation.

...maybe he will ask something else in sixteen minutes... B)

Those are FZ1 mirrors - a very popular change - they give you the ability to actually see BEHIND you instead of watching your elbows. In addition, they then become the widest part of your bike instead of the bags.

University Motors sells them very inexpensively - and I quote Mike Kolstad: "Those guys will run you $34.58ea plus $10 for shipping." So - for $79.00, you can change them out, and no longer have to live with blind spots.

I'm a pretty small framed guy, so blind spots aren't really an issue for me...the bike is alot wider than I am. ;)

I'm really more interested in the cool-baby design of the Gen IIs. I don't want to swap if they're going to look totally out of place, but if not.................

As for the Google search, I used the much ballyhooed search button at the top of the page and typed in "mirrors". Got nothing of value on the first page worth of hits, other than an entertaining but unrelated post from Toecutter. But thanks for the help.

They will bolt right on...same base mount. Only new from above the base.

Gotta love those "Pumpkin People" pictured above as well as the OEM FZ-1 mirrors (least I do)! :clapping: I yanked the stock mirrors off my 07 as soon as I got the FJR since I have a strong preference for monitoring aft activity and for seeing around camping gear I tend to haul far and wide. For a comparison photo of a stock mirror mounted alongside a FZ-1 mirror, go half-way down this page: HERE. FWIW, I'd think rider size would be irrelevant to actually "seeing" with the stock FJR mirrors. IMHO, they are form over function...but to each their own.

Best of luck with your decision, Dangerous Dave.

They may be easy to install, but they are not so easy on the wallet!

Well, I scored a slightly damaged pair on Ebay for next to nuttin'. I'm probably gonna send them off to Garauld the magician once they get here for some fresh paint of the appropriate color. I really am a fairly narrow guy, but I still put Bikemaster small round blind spot mirrors on all my bikes. They make a huge difference. I just think the new style mirrors are pretty sweet cosmetically speaking, and the price was too good to pass up.

Will Gen II mirrors fit Gen I??

The correct answer is NO! The greater adjustability of the gen I & FZ1 mirrors allows them to work on a Gen II. But the (relative) lack of adjustability on the Gen II mirrors, combined with a different mounting angle at the fairing makes them (sadly) useless...and dorky looking when installed on a Gen I.

It was worth a shot.

Anybody want to buy a slightly damaged pair of '06 A mirrors cheap??? Check the classifieds HERE.

No pictures? If I understand, the fairing angle is different on the NegGen bikes, so the mirror will not work properly when attached to an OldGen FJR. Are we to assume the angle is sttep enough that the vertical adjustment isn't sufficient? This is unlike the older mirrors because the old-style mirror head is infinitely adjustable in many planes?

Explanations?

Sounds like no pics are necesary, 'cause you got it Bro. It's actually too steep an angle in two planes, so the top of the mirror head isn't parallel to the ground, aaaaand you have an excellent view of the sky from the rider seat. That's what makes them dorky AND useless. As you stated, "the old-style mirror head is infinitely adjustable in many planes". That's why old mirrors will work on new bikes, but not the other way around. Bummer. :angry2:

Well, Dave, I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. At least you have "proven" a theory and sacrificed your time and efforts for the good of the FJR community. I'm proud of you! :clapping:

Ssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone....I don't particularly care for the looks of the NewGen mirrors. To each his own!

I know some think the FZ-1 mirrors look like antennae, but that is a good thing....if the antennae are on the Praying Mantis I'm riding!

For those that have mounted the FZ1 mirrors (5LV-26280-00-00 Left / 5LV-26290-00-00 Right) on their Gen II bikes, was any additional hardware required, i.e., backing plate, flange nut, etc., or did the existing Gen II hardware suffice? Though the FZ1 mirrors are an aesthetic step backward IMHO, I'm willing to take that step if it means having mirrors that allow me to see more than just my elbows!

You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

Ssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone...they talk to me too. They keep telling me to buy a Power Commander. ;)
