When I connected my old camera to my Windows XP Pro computer, it would give me a window similar to this:

Camera.JPG

And in that window, I would have the option of opening a folder to view the files. However, on my new camera, it doesn't give that option. Is there a setting or other thing I can do to view them using the standard Windows Explorer type folder rather than the scanner/camera thingee?

I assume your camera is connected via USB drive. If so your usb drive should show up in Windows explorer (when camera is on and connected to computer) as an external drive such as E or some other drive letter thingee. Well ... at least that's what miss South Carolina told me.

The first time you connect your digital camera to your PC, you can select an action and check "Always use this program for this action" to keep from seeing a prompt every time you plug in the camera. But what if you want to use a different program later to handle your digital photos? Connect the camera again, right-click its icon in Explorer, and choose Properties. Use the settings on the Events tab to select what happens the next time you link it.

Shamelessly stolen from this article...

Let me clarify. I can, and currently do, view the pictures on the camera by going to My Computer. In addition, I do want to select the "Always do this...", but the one I want, one that reads, "Open Folder to View Items" or something similar isn't even showing up.

That's what I want to know how to figure out, is how to make the Open Folder option become available.

Pony,

Does your Camera create a Virtual Drive in your System eg like Drive G or something?

If it does like mine did, 1-right click on the Virtual Drive and Hit Properties 2-Go to AutoPlay Tab 3-Select Pictures in the Top Scroll box 4- Select Copy Pictures to a Folder...using Camera Wizard

I believe this will get you want you want.

However, I would buy an USB Multi-Memory Disk Input Device such as ScanDisk Image Mate for about $20.

I have lost a digital camera processor(ruined camera $600 Olympus) when hooking up a Camera directly to computer...you have a good possibility of Locking up/ or looping. Using an Image Mate will avoid this issue and save your expensive camera.

Hope this works for you.
