I'm getting my farkles ready for my soon to be (March?) '07 FJR and have a few ?'s about windscreen.

I sat on a '07 the other day and noticed how small the stock screen seems. That probably adds to the sporty looks and maybe to help keep cool in summer but I imagine it goes up for quiet/smooth airflow most of the time. I know this is vein but I couldn't stand the way my ST1300 looked with the screen raised, like a barn door on the front of the bike. I think all the sporttourers suffer from the same condititon. Why don't they make the screen go straight back, retaining its helpful angle staying close to you and directing the wind over your head and look good to?? Also I don't like to look through a screen but just over it. THe ST1300 did provide good almost sportbike like quiet airflow with screen all the way down.

Anywho, I though maybe a taller (Cee Baileys +2 or +4) would help direct wind over your head, keep quiet and still look good with the angle. Anybody have experience with this? I'm 5-11, 30 inseam. I reallllly like the looks of the FJR and am trying to keep it sharp i.e. no trunk and associated hardware. I thought also that one with a flip would help but would not be good if I had to raise to look through.

Thanks,

Steve

I have an 06 AE with the CB +2 Flip.

I am 6' 0" tall.

If i sit as tall as possible, with the screen full up -- I have a little air on the top of the helmet.

If I sit relaxed -- im in calm air.

the flip is not optically distorted very much (I can look through it just fine)

I also posted this info elsewhere a moment ago, but I'll repeat here for good measure.

:)

I ordered a +4w x +2h +flip CB today. I really liked the quiet pocket of air on my 05 with flip.

You have to be very careful with the 06-07 CB shield specs. They are measuring the OEM width above the mid-point where the shield is narrow. So if you want a shield that is the same width as the stock (at the bottom), it will take a +4w CB to match that width.

At least that's what I think I understood today. We'll see in a few days.

Daddy,

Living in GA, you will soon find that the small-looking stock windshield is in fact blocking body airflow in the summer, and not providing enough shelter in the winter. I've added a Cee Baileys short (-3") windscreen for summer riding that flows the wind to hit the upper body to flow air through the mesh gear. In 100 degree weather it is definitely needed.

In cold (50 degree minus) degree weather have a Cee Bailey +2.5 that puts the body in a still pocket (I'm 5'9") but leaves some airflow to the helmet. Nothing I've tried completely eliminates helmet buffeting, except the tall windscreen in a raised position (almost looking through it) - which kind of defeats the purpose.

I've seen that CeeBaileys has added a flip contour windshield for the FJR. I'd recommend looking into that for cool weather use, maybe in the +2 size?. I'm not so sure about the value of the flip-up profile in really hot weather for a shorter screen - Assuming you are a ATGAT rider. I'm ready to trade off a bit of wind noise for airflow in the summer - I live in Dallas - 100 degrees at noon in summer.

BTW, the C Bailey products have been crystal clear and well made.

Hope this helps.

Daddy,

I have the CB +4/+3 and am same size as you. I normally ride with it about 2/3 of the way up and leave the faceshield open - the windshield is still way below my line of sight. All the way up for rain. All the way down sometimes (faceshield closed) when it's hot or when I'm feeling squidly. It doesn't make me look like a sport bike stud, but at least I'm comfortable.

Jeff,

Did you consider the Givi? It appears to be the same size as the CB you ordered and also has the flip. I think it's only $120 though.

Windscreens, like oil, octane, seats and a plethora of other accessories vary by personal tastes. There really is NOT one Holy Grail of windscreens. That being said, most of us prefer a bigger one of sorts for most conditions, HOT not generally one of them.

Me, I prefer the Rifle windscreen. I like their "tuning block" which increases the angle of the windscreen even more.

Tall guys, what works on a '06?

I'm 6'3". Not unusually wide.

I tried a Cal Sci "tall". It had a nice quiet pocket but it was a couple of inches below where it needed to be. I.e., the wind hit the top couple of inches of my helmet uless I slumped to the point of discomfort. Sold it. I think the new owner will like it.

Has anyone 6'2" or greater height actually ridden behind a windshield that provides that quiet air pocket to guys our height? I.e., not a screen that might, should, may, my cousin's friend said, you might try,..., etc. but used one that does?

If so, could you tell me?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

P.S. Sorry for the thread hijack. If you want this thread to be a less general discussion, I can move this post.

Screen discussion could go on for ever, one size or brand does not suit all.

I am 6'4" and I fitted an Eagle Screen, same width as standard but 3" taller.

I am happy with it because I can leave it lowered for 96% of the riding I do, up to 120kph.

The screen mechanism is not really strong once raised.

The screen also has a slight tint, but I actually don't look through the screen due to my height.

Does anyone have a Cee Baileys flip model. What is your experience with it compared to stock 06/07 shield? What size shield do you have, i.e. +2h, +4 w, and what height are you? I had a +4flip on my V-Strom and it was perfect.

I'd really apreciate any pix! :hi:

Thanks,

Actually the height of the rider only factors in one measurement. The others are seat height and eye line. Some have longer legs and shorter torsos and the opposite is also true. Bar risers sit you upright more, everything you change has an effect. So to ask what size is really relative to each individual and his or her bike set up. I have an 03 with a CB flip 4 tall and 3 wide, which is two inches under the same in an 04-05 shield height. It still isn't tall enough, Two more inches high would be about right. I like quiet and a dead air space.

1300's:

I do too.

They changeds the shield position on the 06, but I'm not sure how much. Good points on the torso height and risers, but I want a ballpark. It sounds like you are suggesting a +6 flip, at least for the 03-05.
