Generally speaking, I'm O.K. with the coverage provided by the stock windshield on my FJR, especially since I added a spacer at the bottom to give me more air when it's in the fully lowered position.

I had a Cee Bailey's on my Concours and I know that a 'vented' windshield can really reduce turbulence. With that said, I want to reduce turbulence and 'back-pressure' when the FJR windshield is in the fully raised position.

Sooo..., I'm considering cutting a couple of holes in my stock windshield.

Has any brave soul out there taken a Dremel to their stock windshield to create openings similar to those in the Cal Sci windshield. If so, speak up; share your results with the list.

I did it! It changed the buffeting some but not enough to justify cutting holes in your shield. I have read every thread I can about shields and have been looking for an aftermarket shield to buy. for every story you read positive there are that many negative ones to go along with it. You would think by now someone would have come up with a solution that would satisfy most folks. I loved the size of the stock shield. I hate the large cow catchers some people put on their bikes. I think if our stock shield had a flip on the top of it, that might make a big difference.

Thanks for the info. The Concours had a very pronounced flip at the top of the original windshield that produced extreme turbulence. When I replaced the windshield with one that didn't have a flip, the turbulence was almost completely eliminated. The vented Cee Bailey's took care of it completely.

Life is full of compromises and this will probably be another one. I'm not ready to pull the trigger on buying a replacement just yet so I'l continue to monitor the listservers and groups to see if anything better shows up.

Look at my post on the other thread on this sheet about the CalSci shield. If punching holes in a Cee Bailey will get you anywhere near the same benefits I got with the CalSci, then it is worth doing.

Thanks, I didn't go with the CalSci just because of looks. I may try the holes in my cee bailey...

See the thread below. I'd be interested in seeing the results of someone starting out with a stock shield or one of the aftermarkets and cutting CalSci type holes to see if it would reduce turbulence. In the post below I offered a picture of a similar set of holes in an Aeroflow shield I used with great satisfaction on a BMW K100RS. Made all the difference in the world.

If you have a plastics shop cut it for you (as is mentioned above) what is the cost estimated for the labor?
