windshield peeling

My friend has a 05 FJR with the factory windshield. While on a 4 day ride, we wiped the bikes off with an absorber, which is a synthetic shammy. The windshield peeled. Small,very thin ribbons of plastic came off of the windshield, almost like you were using a wood plane to shave the windshield. I also noticed crazing on the lower portion of the windshield,but did not see any cracks.

Any ideas? Has this happened before to any one else. It did it only once.

There's likely a chemical in the absorber that doesn't play well with acrylic. Stop using it and use something that is compatible...like Windex or the myriad other cleaners safe for acrylic.
